If I were to transport a horse that I sold, what should I charge the purchaser per mile? And, would I only charge per loaded mile? (I would assume so).

I would only be making a trip of maybe four or five hours.

Sandy, I think what you charge will be up to you, but make sure it covers all of your expenses. If I'm making a special trip to haul horses, I charge for the round trip.

Being only 4-5 hours, it depends on the purchase price.

I have delivered a horse a couple of hours away for nothing

and have charged $100.00 for the the same distance.

You want to at least get your gas for delivery.

I would say charge enough to cover your gas money each way--you don't have to give a per mile charge, you can say I will deliver for $--- If you prefer to give a per mile price then you can divide the total up either by one way miles or by round trip miles--round trip miles price will be lower than one way miles.

If I were you I would charge a set price. Enough for gas and time.

Make sure they "client" has all the health papers you want to require and I'd also get a release signed just in case anything goes wrong. Such a short trip, all should go well, but you never know. Best of luck!
