Zena will be 15 months old on the 12th of Aug.

As far as I know she's never had a season. nothing obvious anyway.

Since her Mom came back into season, after having Zuni, and was being

bred Zena has started this bizarre behavior.

Have you ever watched like wildlife shows where the wild dog shows

submission to the pack leader by crouching down and clacking their teeth?

Zena has been doing that to Zee, her Dad, for a couple weeks.

He's like standing in his stall with his head over the door. She is spoiled

rotten and gets to keep me company in the barn. She'll walk over to his

stall and crouch down, stretch her neck out and up and start clacking

her teeth at him.

At first I thought she had something stuck in her mouth and she was

trying to dislodge it, but it's become a everyday thing.

Anyone seen anything like this before?

Could it be an sign of an upcoming season?

Is it submissive behavior?

She's not thinking her Dad is THE Man is she????? We can't be having that.

Yup, she's showing him that she is submissive. Could be she either is in season or will be, or just her way of saying Hey Dad, I'm here in the aisle but I mean no disrespect or trouble. What does he do? Nod his head?

My colts get away with murder by driving their poor father NUTS then, when he goes to give them a very well deserved bite, they do the "Don't bite me I'm only a baby" routine!!!

yep typical baby behavior. I have seen older horses do it when they are really stressed

It's only going to be adorable if it doesn't mean she thinks it'd be OK for

her Dad to 'like' her in other than his normal fatherly manner.

Zee and Zena have been such good pasture mates ever since she was

born last year. They've always hung out together, they are both very

playful and like to race and play. In fact Zena has put on weight ever

since I separated her from her Dad, about 3 months ago, as I thought

'maybe' she'd have a season in the near future.

Should she be having a season in the near future, at 15 months?

Ummm... Zena was in with her sire until she was a yearling??? I hope she was not one of those fillies who matures early reproductive-wise....
