April will be a busy and exciting month for the members of the Northeast Miniature Horse Club. We will be offering two clinics, both with top-of-the-line Miniature horse trainers.

The first clinic will be held on Saturday,April 14th at Winning Ways Farm, Dover, NH. Danielle “Peas†Hill of Reece Family Miniatures will be our clinician and she will cover all aspects of conditioning, training and showing. Reece Family Miniatures has won many, many AMHA World Championship titles and World Grand Championships over the years. If you ever wanted to really know how to win in the show ring, don’t miss this clinic!

The clinic is free to all AMHA-carded Amateur exhibitors and youth. Northeast Miniature Horse Club members who do not hold an AMHA Amateur card pay only $5 and non-members will pay $20. This clinic will be held in the farm’s indoor arena and heated meeting room and a “gourmet†potluck lunch is included. We will also have representatives from Purina Mills to give a lecture on equine nutrition, as well as an equine dentist to speak on proper dental care for Miniatures and an equine reproduction specialist, experienced with the special needs of the Miniature horse.

During lunch, there will be a silent auction with some great items -- a completely reconditioned set of Double K Clippers, a Miniature saddle in excellent condition, a harness and a consignment rack with gently used show clothing for children and adults. Sue Hartley, owner of Reindance Tack, will be on-site selling blankets, sheets, show halters and all kinds of Miniature horse equipment.

Our second clinic is a driving clinic and will be held the following weekend – April 21st and 22nd at the beautiful Sawmill River Farm in West Brookfield, MA. This clinic will be taught by Mike McCabe, a leading trainer and judge. Mike has been showing and breeding horses for more than forty years and has earned numerous National Championship titles in both Arabians and Miniature Horses. Mike is also an International Judge, carded in AMHA, AMHR. ASPC, IALHA and ADGR and has judged in show rings from France to New Zealand. His clinics are sought-after for halter and driving training.

Mike’s clinic will be a series of one-hour, one-on-one training sessions. Although all the time slots have been booked, we are taking reservations in case we get cancellations.

For more information about either one of the Northeast Miniature Horse Club’s clinics, please contact Jenifer Van Deinse @ [email protected].

The Northeast Miniature Horse Club is comprised of a dedicated group of Miniature Horse owners, breeders, and enthusiasts who wish to promote the enjoyment and humane treatment of all Miniature Horses. Our club is committed to the on-going education of Miniature Horse owners. Our members support the efforts of rescue organizations to advocate for and improve the well-being of abused, neglected, or unwanted Miniature Horses. We would like to be thought of as an area resource for the Miniature Horse community, providing a referral service and a place where questions can be answered and guidance found, from a trusted source on an on-going basis. By attending our shows and clinics, you help support the club’s rescue efforts – money well spent!

We welcome anyone with an interest in Miniature Horses. For more information about the club, we invite you to visit our website at www.northeastminis.org.

Here is the link to the Northeast Miniature Club website - www.northeastminis.org and I promise that it will be updated very, very soon to show these clinics and other events on the calendar! Keep checking back.

We'll have to put this on the calender.

Is the clinic with Peas hands on? Bring your own horse?

What time?

Mark

humm wish i had known about the McCabe driving clinic before it was full! i'd love to take my boys down.

Hi Mark-

The "Peas" clinic 4/14 is a demo clinic not a "bring your horse" clinic. But there should be opportunities for hands-on practice using the horses that are there for the demonstrations. Sorry that I don't know what time it starts, but when I find out I will see that the starting time gets posted on the Club website too. And/or on here....

I know my mom's going to Mike McCabe's..I'm going to the "Peas" one though. Can't wait!

For those who have asked about a start time for the clinic with Danielle "Peas" Hill, we haven't set on yet, as we are coordinating with the rep from Purina and our veterinarian. As soon as it is decided upon, I will post it on this Forum.

Hope to see lots of y'all there!

Jenifer

Mike is awsome with clinics. Last year he did super with his clinic at his training center. Wish i could go, just a bit to far of a drive lol. Mike does have another clinic in April that we're attending. He sure is a busy man lol.

The Northeast Miniature Club website has just been updated to list these clinics and other events on the Club calendar. www.northeastminis.org

Driving directions to the April 14 Clinic and further details (like the starting time) will be added to the website as they become available.

The response to the clinics has been overwhelming!

to that end, it's recommended that anone planning to attend the "Peas" clinic on April 14th that you reserve space. I'd hate for anyone to drive a long distance and there not be room for you!

Please, anyone who is thinking of attending, email me and I will email you the sign up sheet so you can reserve your space. [email protected]

WOW...

I think the idea of having a clinic for amateurs and youth was a great idea. Who thought of that anyway??

And, we should thank AMHA for the grant we applied for and was awarded.

It looks like a good idea we have a sign up form so we'll know how much food to prepare

Do we know how many horses 'Peas' will need? I'm bringing a new member with me but not her horse. Have we had any volunteers on the horse end of the clinic? Let me know if you need one from here.

The April 14th clinic is really coming together and should be GREAT.

It doesn't matter how long you've been involved with horses, you can always learn something new. I for one will be hanging on every word Peas has to say! Hard to beat all that success!!

Equally important is the chance to speak with veterinarians from the New England Medical & Surgical Center. They have a lot of experience with Miniature-specific health issues, such as hypolipemia (sp??), insulin resistence and the special needs of the foaling mini mare. For a lot of us, finding veterinarians with a knowledge of the special needs of minis is difficult. Thanks to this clinic, they will be available for questions after their presentation at the clinic.

And while all of our club's members owe a great deal of gratitude to those who organized this clinic (as well as the Mike McCabe clinic the following weekend), an even bigger thanks should go out to the AMHA which provided the much-needed seed money to get this clinic off the ground. This is a GREAT program offered by AMHA, which, unfortunately, not a lot of clubs know about or take advantage of. THANK YOU AMHA!!!!!

Bump..They are also handing out folders to the "new to minis and showing" exhibitors ")
Let's Hope my girls cooperate and spit these babies out, as I am running the clinic with Mike!

We were laughing because we have to pick up and drop himself off at Logan Airport in Boston, and since I'm running it, I said I'd go get him and take him to Sawmill River......................................................After a while I realized that Boston Airport SECURITY wasn't going to look kindly on a woman driving in to the parking area of THAT airport hauling a big horse trailer, locking the doors and walking away ( to get Mike ).......Yea, right...I would be hauling fertilizer at that point!!! (POOP).

Someone else is doing both the p/u and drop off now.....and I'm thinking up goodies to bake for us while we're "working".

Pinch me! I'm so excited!

Our membership and reservations for teh April 14 clinic have gone out. Sounds like a great day.

Mark

Welcome to the club, Mark! Can't wait to meet you. I hope you'll join us for our show in NH on May 27th, too!! (You can put all those great tips you'll be learning from Peas to good use!)
