I would also say he is grulla. Just wondering if dam may actually be carrying grey as well? Has she been tested for grey? Oftentimes when foals are born with such rich color, it is due to grey, and since she is "silver" something, she may actually be carrying grey?? Very handsome colt....congratulations!
She is not a grey carrier, as neither of her parents were grays. I think I might color test her as well in order to find out just what we are dealing with

I went back and looked at the pictures again. I can't see the mare's back to see if she has a dorsal stripe or not, but she appears to be a Silver Grulla.
She actually does have a dorsal stripe. It isn't as dark as the foal's, however. I believe I will have her tested, too. Oh, and the dam does have a brother who is a definate grullo- I just found out.

What do you think is causing the blue eyes? The sire was a frame, so I will test this guy for that gene. But, are blue eyes associated with Grullo?

Thanks for posting the results, Peggy! I suspected grulla, but you just never know for sure without testing! And good to know he's LWO too.

Thanks for posting results and a GREAT reminder that solids can be LWO+. Always nice to find that out through testing and not the hard way.

This little fellow arrived night before last.

I have a pretty good idea what color I think he is, but would love to hear your ideas.

Edited:

Color results are in: Homozygous black, heterozygous dun, LWO +, No silver, No cream (I think we checked out about everything LOL)

That makes him a Grullo Frame.

The only hint we had that led us to test for frame, since he is a solid, is the fact he had blue eyes. Given that his sire is a frame, sure made us suspicious. So, I thought it would be helpful to post the results as a reminder that Frames can be solid!

where did you test for Dun?
