Looking at younger mares that are only amhr registered, wondering what is involved to hardship them into amha? Do they have to be 3 years old or 5? And do you need someone from amha to measure and inspect them? What are the costs?

Thanks in advance

hmmmm, I knew that it was still possible to hardship an amha horse to amhr but I had thought that it was not possible any longer to hardship into amha.

Guess I will have to recheck?

Did AMHA change the time frame to 3 years old this year or is it still waiting til they are 5? I think I recall reading about them changing that somewhere but am not 100% positive on that...

Also does anyone know what a ball park would be for the expenses for the director to come measure/inspect?

Those are the same questions I need answers to. And has anyone been through this process and what kind of amounts did the expenses involve? Gas is going up again here and remoteness of where you are, and the state your in would probably vary. Thank you in advance for anyone who can give an idea.

As far as I know they are changing it from 5 to 3 years next year not this year but I am not 100% on that. I am just wondering if that will change the age for hardshipping too?

I looked into it and was going to do it to a gelding I had (he got sick that year though.

). Anways, the lady that could officially measure him was also a judge at our show. I talked to her and she said she'd be happy to measure him after a show that she was judging at. So you could look into who the official people are. Maybe save money if they are judging at a local show or something.

My suggestion would be to call or email AMHA if you have questions regarding hardshipping, the time frame and costs involved. I can tell you that I've hardshipped several mares and a stallion into AMHA and the costs involved were well worth it to me. Fortunately for me, there are several AMHA directors (past and present) in my area and the expense involved for the inspection was basically nil.
