Hi everyone

I have a HP windows vista and i went out today and took some video's on my digital cameria and uploading them and they are in .mov versions or whatever that would be considered lol. I cannot get the to play on my computer, i tried Realplayer, Windows Movie Maker, Downloading Quicktime (which DIDNT work), Windows Media Player, MuVee Auto Producer and NONE of them will even play my file.

What do you use, what can i download? I just want to be able to play the video clips and maybe edit them and make a small movie i can upload to youtube or photobucket.

Please help

Leeana, what kind of camera do you have? We went round and round with my Kodak trying to do videos. No problem loading photos from it, but the videos took forever to figure out. I think it took Quicktime Pro maybe to get them to actually load and be able to be shared.

Easier said than done~

I've got a bunch of movies I still can't convert. Some do and some don't.

Conversions are tempermental and you also have to be sure your computer

is compatible and will support the converters.

Did any software come with your camera? It should have it's own editing software

so that you can view your own movies. If you have Kodak, upload the easyshare

software and it will play in there

Windows Movie Maker will not accept a quicktime file

and MOV is a quicktime file

If Vista doesn't have quicktime you can upload it at download dot com

Windows Vista doesn't like any programs so that's your first problem.

What XP gives you for free, Vista expects you to buy.

MOV files in themselves are useless if you want to share them.

However, they will be converted automatically to photobucket into AVI

if you can keep them under 100 MB. Try to upload your movie in photobucket and

see if you can view it from there.

But usually you cannot do anything else with a MOV file so you have to

convert and compress. There is no other choice if you want to enhance them or

upload them etc.

So far I have been through about 30 of them such as Media Coder, Super, video dub, Sony Vegas

Cinema Forge and I go through them like water and

it's a complete pain in the butt. I don't think most converters will be compatiable

with Vista and you will probably have to purchase a compatable program for it which

can be done online, the problem being is that any compresser or converter

no matter if you buy it or not, may not work even though it says it will no matter

if you have Vista or not.

I have the configurations for some of them if you care to try one but I am not

promising it will work with Vista.

Media coder seems to be the easiest so here is that config that I use but again

not sure it will work for you:

30 KBS

Format to Mpeg4

container AVI

Set audio to LAME mp3

Resample original

CBR Channel mono

Rate mode CBR

KBS 64

I also have already got configs for superconvert handy if you want to try that one.

Well i got it working, all i had to do was download QuickTime and now i can watch vid's on any of the editing programs on my computer ..it was pretty easy actually

Thanks for the help!

Leanna, Quick Time as I said will accept a MOV file.

You cannot bring them into MovieMaker as mov without converting but you still

can upload them and have some fun if your clips are small.

Upload them to photobucket if you can keep them under 100 MB

then you can email them or share them here or whatever. Take your

curser and just put it on the little quicktime square and it will tell you

how much MB you have. If you are 100 or under, it will work.

Then once you upload to photobucket, the mov file will change over in to AVI by itself so that way you

can do more with them.

My problems are that all my movies I get carried away with and they end up like a million MB and then they don't want to convert easily.

Do the photobucket thing and Enjoy!

Here is a free converter that should work with Vista if you want to enhance and do more stuff with them

http://software.ivertech.com/AltdoMOVtoAVI...ftware31534.htm

But like I said, some do and some just don't work so experiment with lots of them until you find one that is compatiable.
