So my black and white splash mare had a filly last night. The blue eyed filly was ALL white except for a Tiny medicine hat... where did this come from?!?! I was in shock when I saw this. And I went into further shock when I saw that the medicine hat was black spot with a brown spot right next to it (you cant really see the colors in the pic) I was NOT expecting this at all. What am I going to do with this little filly? Lol. I don't know whether to sell her or keep her. Medicine hats derive from sabino coloring right? So splash has nothing to do with it. So it has to come from my stallion? (heres the stud http://www.freewebs.com/rockingn/miniaturestallion.htm)

Right? I actually have no idea what im talking about. Both parents have blue eyes. One is black and white splash, the other a chestnut crazy pinto. Maybe the stallion has the sabino, thus the roaning area on one of his spots? But is he also frame or splash? I'm so confused on coloring.. lol. But I do know the mare is splash because she is obvious. In the future if the filly is bred, will she have frame babies? Sabino? LOL i have no idea..

well..I am no help with genetics as I am still trying to figure them out myself...cutie pie tho..congrats! A medicine hat is just an overo pattern tho, I do believe...I don't think they have anything thing to do with sabino.....but, like I said I am no authority on that!!!

Well there's no doubt your little gal is splash

and I would definitely test her, (and her sire/dam for that matter) for LWO/frame gene.. And I suspect there's sabino coming into play as well

Have fun keeping her clean! LOL

First that is not a medicin hat. A medicin had covers both ears and around the base of them only, (like a hat).

Second when in doubt test for frame.

Maybe she is a Medicine Beret?

Sorry if this has already been answsered but Ashley is right. This is not a medicine hat at all. I have a mare that reminds me of the markings on your little one. My mare, Crystal, has 3 black round spots near her mouth, has black and white tail and has chestnut color on the top of her forehead (ears are white like your filly). Your filly is a maximum sabino overo who probably carries the flash and perhaps the frame gene. You should get her tested for LWO as well. Congratulations, she is a cutie!!!!

I agree that there are multiple genes present.

I would love it if you could post sire and dam photos. Your link to your stallion does not work.
