Are Vet costs rising in your area?

I'm in the middle of nowhere (55 miles from one vet, 65 miles from the other), so pay as much or more for mileage as I do for services. Last summer, I had the new vet out (she took over our former vet's practice) to check a couple horses, decided if I was paying mileage she might as well check a couple other horses while she was here. Mileage charges plus ranch call was 1/3 of my bill, if I hadn't added the extra horses for her to take a look at, then mileage would have easily been over half the bill. The service charges were quite reasonable, the mileage charges not so much.

Coggins have gone up for us, but still less than other parts of the country. I think my last ones were $25.. Trip charges have of course gone up and will probably do so again. I have a couple of neighbors who use the same vets, and we do try to schedule calls when possible to split the trip charge.
