    Got to drive my critter...finally!

It is definitely exciting! Now the two boys both want a driving mini...which might be easier than trying to figure out how to share a mini mare with three kids. Poor mare! I had planned on getting him out (and showing him) since I bought him. But we only have two 3-horse trailers, and we're...

    Got to drive my critter...finally!

Thanks! I gave him yesterday off, but hopefully will have time to drive him again today. I love that he's finally working, but not sure he's off the same mind.

    Got to drive my critter...finally!

Well, after 3 years of waiting, it finally happened. I ground drove him last year, when he was 2. Then I finally got a harness, and started ground driving him again last week. I also pulled the cart behind him (with him in the shafts), tied a rope onto the shafts and put them over the saddle...

    giving your own vaccines

My vet charges approximately $45 for the basic shots. I can give those myself, MUCH cheaper (we have 9 head of horses here). I then have him out to do the Rabies (in PA, vets are the only ones that can administer them, and you need a certificate proving they had it at most of the shows)...

    Building jumps

If you do a search for dog agility, there are a lot of great sites on building PVC jumps. They don't look that complicated, but I haven't tried making any. When I was doing the searching, I had a JRT that I had planned on doing Agility with. She was killed, so we never got that far. :-(

    Jumping Question

Very pretty! Unfortunately, it's also $100 more than I can spend at the moment. :-(

Which do you prefer for big horses?

We have two trailers. One is a gooseneck 3-horse, with living quarters, fully-enclosed horse trailer. The other is a bumper pull stock trailer, 3-horse, with a large dressing room. On the stock trailer, the dressing room wall swings open, along with all of the dividers, so we can haul hay and...

Maiden mare in foal sitting like a dog when she get up?

We had a small, old Morgan mare, who absolutely went nuts when you scratched her belly. She'd even hike up her back leg when scratching her, so you had easier access. She was never bred (at least here, although she had some foals way before we got her). She would always roll, and then sit...

    Jumping Question

Thanks. I'm definitely going to measure all three of them...although I doubt I'll be showing the Shetland mare. But you never know...she may turn into a better driving animal than the other two.

    Jumping Question

Well, I might have been able to, if I didn't punch all the holes in it. Hopefully we'll have some babies coming in a few years, and we can use it then. I like the cable halters, but I'm not sure how well they'd work with a young one just starting out. I lucked into my cable halter...someone...

    Training for jumps...

Well, I'm in no way an expert. I trained mine like I did when I was training hunters. I started with a pole on the ground, and trotted back and forth over it. Then I made a small crossrail, and trotted back and forth over that. As he progressed, I raised it. I don't know exactly how how...

    'Grooma' curry comb

I love mine! They really get the hair out, aren't hard on the hair like a metal shedding blade (anything metal actually breaks the ends of the hair), and are easy to clean out. Because of the larger knobs, the hair ends up flicking right off in a circle. As a plus, kids are easily amused by...

    Jumping Question

Thanks, everyone! That's what I thought, but wanted to make sure. I had bought a leather halter last year, with silver. It looks just like my AQHA show halter. However, it doesn't fit. I have a small stallion, with a tiny head, and nothing was where it was supposed to be. The bars along...

    Jumping Question

What halter would be appropriate for jumping and obstacle? I plan on using a cable halter for halter, but thought a Quarter Horse style would be better for the jumping and obstacle. What does everyone else use?

    Cures for Rain Rot???

That's the same thing I use. Works great, too. I also want to point out that, when it has a lot of puss under the scabs, you may need to call the vet and put the horse on some antibiotics for a bit. And make sure that any grooming items (or anything else that touches the horse) are only used...

    Broodmare question

We have a Morgan pony mare. She's around 13, has never had a foal, and she has milk. I didn't even know it until my mini ( yearling at the time) was nursing from her. I thought he was just looking for something to drink, then went over and heard sucking and saw him swallowing! I then...

Maine Pride has a LONG awaited announcement to make

:aktion033: Congratulations! They both look amazing. Good luck with them. :-)

    Attention MARTY...barn question

Okay, if you're standing in the middle of a stall, facing toward a side wall.... the left side (at the front of the stall) is attached to a post. What attaches the right side to the concrete blocks? I told hubby I only needed 6x8 stalls. I figured that was plenty of room for just one, and if...

Will either of these jackets work for driving?

I wear black, even in our hot and humid Pennsylvania summers. I may sweat to death, but at least the classes don't last long. LOL I think I'm going to go back to Peebles and Fashion Bug and see what they may have on clearance. I wish now I would have bought the darker green blouse instead of...
