My newest stallion "Starchief Appy Dans Blanket Bingo" coliced on Sunday evening and then again on Monday morning. My vet came and looked at him and recommended taking him to New Bolton (large animal hospital) so they could diagnos exactly what was going on since she couldn't do a rectal exam.

After doing bloodwork, ultrasound, and x-rays they determined he didn't have an impaction, or twisted gut so no need for surgery (Thank God!), but then later in the evening they called me and finally diagnosed that he has colitis/enteritis and had a fever of 105. They have started him on medication, and so far he is not terribly painful and is being kept hydrated with an IV.

He will be staying at the hospital for a few days, it is hard not to worry about the little guy, even though I know he is in good hands and round the clock care.

I will update you as I hear more from the vets there. Hoping he improves and can come home soon!

Sending prayers!!!! I know you must be so very worried. Good luck and please let us know how he is doing.

Adding my prayers for Bingo's speedy recovery! Sounds like he's in good hands.

Oh my gosh! He and you are in my prayers!!! You are right, he's in the best hands but I know so much how it's hard not to worry!

Oh my gosh!! Poor Bingo, hope the little guy gets better soon (preferably before you go away this weekend)! Be sure to keep us updated, I'll be praying for him!

Oh Kim, so sorry prayers coming your way...

I spoke to the vet earlier this afternoon and got an update on Bingo. This morning his temperature was normal, he was bright, didn't seem as painful. He has not passed any manure since yesterday afternoon, so that is a concern, as they think he should be developing diarrhea. They tubed him with more mineral oil to help encourage some movement.

He also still had an irregular heart rhythm this morning, which is a concern as well, so that will continue to be watched. He is doing better, but not out of the woods yet. Does anyone have any experience with an irregular heart rhythm in miniature horses??

Thanks again for all of your support and prayers, it certainly helps me & Bingo too!

~Becky, depending on when Bingo comes home, and how things go with him, I may not be going away this weekend after all. I will give you a call when I know for sure.

I hope your boy is doing better this morning. I have had several hospitalized with enteritis over the years. It takes a while to get them recovered, but they all have. I did have one young colt who was under stress and had an irregular heart beat. It was only detected one time. After he recovered from his illness, we had a cardiac specialist do an ultrasound on him. His heart was absolutely fine, and he has never had a problem since that I know of. I'm hoping your boy's rhythm will return to normal as he recovers. Best wishes.
