Odd Palomino Color???

This is my very very light colored Palomino stallion, High Cotton Legendary Dessert Moon, aka Moonie. His sire is Glenns Southern Legend, Black; Dam is Ten L Famrs Frosted Rose, Buttermilk Dun. Is he really a palomino? What color could he be? What color do you really thank his dam is? He has foaled a red dun out of a chestnut Tobiano mare.... First 4 pics are of Moonie, 5th pic is of his dam, 6th pic is of his sire, last 3 pics are of his Red Dun stud colt foal (he is pictured with the colt).....

Looks like a common light palomino. We have several. Dam looks like she is a silver buckskin (maybe dunskin) to me. Here are some of ours, the summer pics are slightly more golden then their current winter fuzz which is very similar to your guy.

The stallion has to be a Dunalino or he could not throw a Red Dun foal out of a Chestnut mare, so he has acquired Dun, I would say, from his Dam who also looks as if she could carry Silver. Dun often causes light colouring on Palominos

Could it be possible that the mare is actually the dun? Or have you had her tested?

Is it possible the chestnut pinto is really a red dun? Might be coming from the mare and not him, otherwise I would guess it would have to come from the silver buckskin dam of your guy.

ok Moonie's dam is in fact a Buttermilk dun (dunskin) I just talked to her owner... but im gonna say my stallion is a dunalino cuz he was bred to a black mare and foaled a smoky grullo....

The mare does look as if she has Silver though, she could just be a mix of Dun and Buckskin but she won't come out that colour form mixing Dun and Buckskin. Anyway, that is by the by, the stallion, YOUR stallion, is a Dunalino which is the most probable reason for him being so pale.

that baby doesnt really look grullo from those pics, looks like some smokey black foals I have had. Did she have the bold dorsal and everything?

Looks like a typical Black Dun to me- just not a Smoky Black Dun- could be, of course, stranger things have happened!

ok on another note what color do you thank this filly is? Sire should be my Bay Roan Tob and dam is a Chestnut tob... I no for a fact this filly is a paint cuz her stocking in the back goes all the way up....

The last filly posted sure looks silver something, based on these pics I'd say silver black. So, if she is silver that would likely make her dam a silver bay rather than chestnut (many silver bays are mistaken for chestnuts).

Or the dam is chestnut hiding silver and the sire passed along the black without agouti

The smokey grullo looks like either just grullo or smokey black and the mare really looks smokey black as well.

The stallion looks palomino, possibly carrying silver since his dam is definitely a silver buckskin and then the dun. Any other dun foals with pictures of the dams available?
