I'd like to see pics. and hear what some of the common driving styles in other countries.

Are there many differences in harness/harnessing styles and driving compared to what the norm is in the U.S.

Not looking to start any conflicts. Just to fill my curiosity.

This is kind of a take off from Ouburgia topic.

Maybe the styles are similiar but wondering just how diffferent they are. And what classes are commonly offered anything different or unique patterns? Different styles of clothing anything you may think of.

thanks.

There is a really fun board about driving:

http://carriagedriving.proboards106.com/?

It is based in the UK and I think most of the members are from the UK, Scotland, Shetland Islands, etc., although there are some members from the States and Canada. They do a neat "Photo Show" each year where the members send in photos and enter them in specific classes and the remainder of the members vote for the winners of the classes. All in fun, but definitely a treasure trove of driving pics and info about their ideas on driving. I rarely see check reins or martingales in these photos. As far as the differences, I'll leave that to you to decide after you have checked it all out.

There is a really neat lady who owns and breeds Native Shetlands (think "Thelwell" ponies

). They are SO adorable!!!! I love perusing that board and the photos on there, almost as much as I enjoy LBMHF

. It's a fun way to see how others do what I like to do.

Have fun.

In the netherlands all horse competing is covered by the KNHS (competion organisation). Within this organisation you can ride dressage, marathon (with all the obstacles) and "vaardigheid" (a parcours with pons with balls on it, don't know the proper translation)

Than you have the shows wich are organised by the different studbooks. Like the KWPN (dutch warmblood) has a special breeding section: harness Horse

Famous stallion Manno, became horse of the year in 2002

The hackney is also still populair in (show) driving

Than there is a show organisation "power horse" wich is for the more heavy horses like drafthorses, Irish cobs, Haflinger, Fjord, etc

That is something else than miniature driving ;)

Most people who drive in a serious way ride by the "achenbach" system

see pictures here, sorry, text is dutch

http://www.bokt.nl/wiki/Achenbach

I'm still a starter in driving, though I have driven for several years on a "recreation way" I've been out a couple of yearse because I had an accident and got scared.

Now I found a trainer (who used to have hackney's) and since january I'm training my horse in een serious way.

My trainer is thinking of placing my horse in tandem with the horse of a stable mate.
