Google has implemented a new feature which enables you to type a telephone number into the search bar and hit enter and you will be given the person's name and address. If you then hit MapQuest, you will get a map to the person's house. Everyone should be aware of this! It's a nationwide reverse telephone book.

If a child gives out his/her phone number, someone can now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious and alarming.

Note that you can have your phone number removed or blocked. I tried my number and it did not come up as it's an unlisted number, but friends came up along with the mapquest and directions straight to her house. I did notify her and she is filling out the removal request form. I encourage all of you to do the same. Quite scary.

Please look up your own number.

In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to: google (http://www.google.com/ ) Type your phone number in the search bar (i.e. 555-555-1212) and hit enter. If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information, simply click on your telephone number and then click on the Removal Form. Removal takes 48-hours.

I heard about this a while back and it's very scary. I immediately had my phone # removed, along with the #'s for my mom and in-laws. Sorry folks, if I want to be found, I'll give out my own address

Thanks for posting!

wow, that really IS frightening!! i removed mine and will pass this along to friends and family!

Google is not the only one doing it. Is so easy to type in a name or number in any search engine out there..and more often than not get the info.

Thanks for posting this. I just removed mine.

As Shari pointed out - this is nothing new...

ANY White Pages site online will give you the reverse number look-up and then an address if the number is not unlisted. It is not simply a Google thing. And any address can then be put into Mapquest for directions... so I guess I am not terribly alarmed by this "new" Google thing. The capability to do this has been around for a long time... and on some sites they can find people for you - if you pay a fee...

I guess your right about it not being a "new" thing. Google just made it easier. I still don't like it though.

Youve been able to do this on anywho.com for a long time. If someone wants to know where you live they'll find you!

I guess I'm just naive about some things.

I think I'll go back under my rock...it's safe there.

Is this only if you use the google tool bar? I typed my number into the google search engine and it said "no documents found".

I have my contact information out there and very easy to find... Not sure if that's smart or not, but I figured if someone WANTS to find me, they will anyway. They'll also find an alarm system, some guns, some mean dogs and ME grrrr

I have been using this feature for years to figure out who calls my house and doesn't leave a message. LOL. Also if you do any online advertising that is where this information comes from. Myself, one sister and my father all come up we all also use ebay or have used craigslist, or other advertising features online. Checked out people I know don't do much if any online buying selling and there was no info on them. So most likely if it all comes up you have used that info on a website or sales page or public forum at some time.
