If I Didn't have Dogs, Cats, & Horses..........

I could walk around the yard barefoot in safety.

My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and laminated.

All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture, and cars would be

free of hair.

When the doorbell rings, it wouldn't sound like a kennel.

When the doorbell rings, I could get to the door without

wading through fuzzy bodies who beat me there.

I could sit on the couch and my bed the way I wanted,

without taking into consideration how much space

several fur bodies would need to get comfortable.

I would have money and no guilt to go on a real vacation.

I would not be on a first-name basis with 6 veterinarians,

as I put their yet unborn grandkids through college.

The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: out,

sit, down, come, no, stay, and leave him/her/it ALONE.

My house would not be cordoned off into zones with

baby gates or barriers.

I would not talk 'baby talk'. 'Eat your din din'.

'Yummy yummy for the tummy'..

My house would not look like a day care center, toys

everywhere.

My pockets would not contain things like poop bags,

treats and an extra leash.

I would no longer have to spell the words B-A-L-L,

F-R-I-S-B-E- E, W-A-L-K, T-R-E-A-T, B-I-K-E, G-O,

R-I-D-E

I would not have as many leaves INSIDE my house as outside.

I would not look strangely at people who think having ONE

dog/cat ties them down too much.

I'd look forward to spring and the rainy season instead

of dreading 'mud' season.

I would not have to answer the question 'Why do you have

so many animals?' From people who will never have the joy

in their lives of knowing they are loved unconditionally by

someone as close to an angel as they will ever get.

How EMPTY my life would be!!!

This was very good, I was just having the conversation last night about not understanding how people can live day to day without animals in their life. After just having lost an old friend and the sadness with that, I would still go thru it again. And the joy of a new puppy....I had forgotten how very sweet and so much fun they are! Life would be very empty without our pets.

LOL!!!!!!!! I swear that person has been to our house!!!!

I love that poem. Thanks!

I have a friend who has a shirt that says it all:

Agenda for the day:

Let dog out.

Let dog in.

Let dog out.

Let dog in.

Let dog out.

Let dog in.

Repeat as needed.

How so very true!!!!! If I didn't have 5 cats, 1 dog, 2 horses, 1 goat...............

how truly empty I would feel!!!!!

I think the author has been to my life also. If I didn't have 10-12 cats, 2 minis & 2 chickens...I would not have any reason to get up in the morning. My fur babies keep me going! I really do need a bigger chair, bed and lap tho...

What a Great and TRUE poem. I cannot imagine how boring my life would be without my best friends. I enjoy being with them every day and prefer them to people...lol

I share my life with 17 minis, 3 dogs and 2 parrots. What on earth could be better then that?????

It's amazing how many cats can fit on your body when you sit down at the computer. I have 4 dogs, 5 cats, 2 minis, 12 goats, and 5 stock tank fish. My husband thinks I'm crazy to want another mini- maybe I am. I had 6 cats up until a week ago when coyotes took one. I really miss him even though I have 5 others. Each critter is special to me in their own way.

Coyotes aren't very special to me right now, though. :arg!

...I would not have any reason to get up in the morning.
I couldn't agree more. Since the dogs are inside if it weren't for the horses I'd have no reason to go outside during these cold winter months. I'd become even more of a hermit than I am now without the need of my fur kids. They tend to keep us going whether we particularly want to or not.
