I am happy to announce we came home with a great little filly!

We found our new girl to take to our senior home visits. All 26 3/4 " of her.

We were fortunate to find a small filly with a people lovin personality.

She made the 600 mile trip home like a trooper and announced her presence to the other horses as she walked off the trailer at 2 a.m. What a girl!

Thank goodness she was not clipped for the auction, it's already in the low 40's here at night.

I wanted to add that some of the horses in the sale were racks of bones and others in full winter coats with no grooming done at all! Not even the shavings and dirt brushed off!! People just don't seem to understand that if you want your horse to bring the most it will at a public auction, you need to have it fit like a show horse! It can make so much difference in the selling price!

That is exactly what I told my brother. If you want top dollar for your horses, you have to spend the time and keep them in show shape 24/7 365 days a year. If you send out this lovely picture of the horse and then have a slopy, hairy, mud ball when someone looks at it. When someone is looking to buy a horse they NEED to see how it is put together. With an un groomed horse sometimes that is all a person will see. Then have you ever gotten "YOU PAID HOW MUCH FOR THAT?"

and then you have to try to explain to an untrained eye just what you have.

We brought home Sorrells Tiny Lou Lou.

She is a cute bay filly.

We spent time talking with the consigners before the auction and she has the qualities we were hoping to find.

We may have a new challenge, I think the Build a Bear shoes are going to be way to big

It may be time to try modifying some toddler shoes

I have a stupid question. After reading the sale results here, I would like to know why most of the 2008 foals on the websites are priced at $2000?. I have been looking all over for a foal that meets the requirements that I am seeking. Some are top quality and others are not. It seems that $2000 is the price of choice. Are people just hoping that the "cute factor" is going to bring them $2000?

Actually I am not looking for a foal that young. I would prefer to have one that is 2 or 3 years old. It has to be registerable with the Pinto association, AMHA and AMHR. Dont care what sex it is or what actual handling it has. Has to have straight legs and correct teeth. Reasonable price is a strong consideration.

This is not going to be popular. It is about the horses going though this auction that were in poor physical condition; obviously hungry for some great length of time.

This auction has a choice. The people attending this auction have choices. When an animal that has been neglected shows up animal control and the livestock board can be called. Auctions can refuse to sell an animal based on condition. Buyers can refuse to line the pockets of people who neglect animals. Why do you continue to support these auctions, businesses, farms and people that neglect animals with your hard earned cash?

Saying this, I also have to point a finger at myself as I have purchased horses that were in poor condition. Please, write out a report or send pictures to the livestock board or at least the rescue of your choice. Nothing ever seems to be done after an animal is purchased, so this is only for the record at this point. Start a paperwork trail on these people and businesses so that when someone comes along who will go out on a limb to end the neglect (if it continues) there is enough evidence to shut these places down.

I imagine I'm going to get a little bit of hate mail for this - seems to happen every time I call people who don't feed animals abusive, and businesses that support those people neglectful - so let me save you a bit of time.
