How much do farriers charge for doing miniature horses in your area, especially North Carolina?

I've paid anywhere from $15 to $25 . The guy that chrged the least does the best job ... go figure.

I was paying $25 each to a local guy

I am now paying $20 plus a travel fee for a lady who specializes in minis. ( and she does a much better job)

$15 - $35 .... and it is very true you get what you pay for

I am in Southern CA, just outside LA and I pay $35 each. I am on the lookout for a farrier with more mini experience though.

It is amazing that I see prices like $35, but I see $35 up in MN too.

Right now I am paying 35 but I was paying 45 until I switched shoers but I may switch again to someone who charges 25 but I need to see how he does minis first.

I pay 25 each now, and he trims six horses at a time for that rate. When there were 3 or 4 horses here, he used to charge 35 each per trim.

I'm in Southern California, too, and I pay $40 per mini. (ShaunaL, I live very close to you!

I'm sending you a PM with information on my trimmer in case you're interested.)

I pay $35 per mini. No travel charge as this farrier is the "regular" farrier where I board and comes every tuesday to do different horses. I'm considering changing farriers as i'm not happy with the job he does on the little ones. When I had a horse in training it was $15, and the lady did an awesome job. Wish I wasn't 5hrs from her!

I pay $30 per trim, Southeastern Pa. I had a quote from a natural horsemanship specialist in my area and she wanted $65 each, yikes, I kept my farrier. Between the routine every 5-6 week trims and the pea gravel I put in my paddock my boys have rock solid bare feet that don't chip or crack between trims. It has been worth the money.

My farrier normally charges $20.00 for trims regardless of size. Because I have so many and we do them every 5 wks he charges $15.00 per trim.

My farrier charges $25 per mini in the York, PA area. Very nice young man and I like the way he treats my barn "kids".

We charge $15 per head for minis which is about 98% of our business.

we set routes up and try to get everyone on board at the same time in an area that is why we dont have to charge a farm call or travel amount.

Our routes are expanding so feel free to contact me if you wish.

The guy I had for years for minis and my big horses chaged $25.00 per horse, he got done and since ten i've had 3 others here. I can't remember what the first one charged, I think it was $25. had him here the one time, the next guy was good but charged $40.00 per horse, I about fell over when he said that. The latest guy was good and charged $20.00 and was good with my horses. The first guy had their legs lifted so high I thought the horse would fall over

My old farrier use to charge $20 a head, and was about to raise us to $25, but insisted on coming every month, and seemed like they would trim the tinest bit off just to get paid. They were not doing a good job at all even to the point of nearly crippling several horses from leaving toes too long, and she would simply use nippers and take off heel and barely rasp. To where you could see the nippers marks in their feet right after she was done. Or she would try and "fix" problems only they seemed to get worse and worse. Needless to say she was fired, and I apprenticed to find out to do it for myself. I have gotten good responses when I have asked how I am doing, and the horses are MUCH happier now. And trimmed as often or as little as they need it. And even one of her previous customers had the same issue and now I trim hers.

So please everyone make sure you yourself are educated on the basics of correct trimming. You don't have to trim them yourself or anything, but if something doesn't look right, speak up! If you don't think they need it the next time the farrier wants to show up, YOU decide not them. They are your horses, and you know them best.

I had to learn the hard way
