This is crazy ... i will warn you.

My mare...

some of you have read my posts with the problems she has had , and its like a puzzle that i am trying to piece together . Today I got another piece of the puzzle.

She is over weight, she has always been overweight. She is not eating very much, and now I am feeding her even less to get some weight off. 2 kilos of hay per day , and half of that is straw.

3 weeks before she was trimmed by a horrible Farrier , and all horses trimmed were very lame after for 1 week. She developed a red line in her hoof wall with an indent where the line is a day after the hoof was trimmed .... I assume this is trauma, and because it appeared the day after she was badly trimmed I assume it was the Farrier that caused this. I know by her reaction to the trimming that it was painful during the process as well. 2 weeks after the trim , the vet came out to give an annual shot, the vet said she was pregnsnt , but we said its not possible and dismissed it. then by the 3rd week she developed laminitis . She could always walk , just a little stiff, and very slow. At first it looked like it was on all 4 feet. I did everything I was suppose to do ... its been like 4 days later , and she feels a LOT better , but a GOOD Farrier comes Sat to correct the hoof, and give me a hoof plan for the future. I have a lead on a specialist in Lichenstein ( small country in austria) that can make an x-ray, and my other vet will look into meds or suppliments. Meanwhile my trainer will help me on the herbal treatment ( they are BIG into herbal remidies here) ... so I think I have everything under some form of control

THEN... i notice that her main hairs are falling out .. A LOT... so i start to think there is something else going on here, are you still with me?

This is where it gets funny,

There is a woman in town that does energy work on people , and can see where energy is blocked, then she can tell you where there is a problem in your body... She is always "spot on"... she is our own personal healer in town and she has helped many people . I have herd that she has saved a famers sheep once. So I called her and she came over , went into the stall and so on .... to make a long story short she said the horse was pregnant. ( I wont get into why she said this ) now thats 2 people with this oppinion. Her tets are normal but before the tets there is a pouch its about the size of an apercot, one bigger on one side. her belly is round and tight like a fat horse , by the end of the day it is tighter feeling , and the thickness is mostly around the rib area, and comes sort of to a point at the bottom of her belly...in other words she has the look of a pregnant mare... our stallion was gelded in Febuary 2008 ...They have always been together , even after he was gelded , but I thought we were over the possible pregnancy point ... to my knowledge she has NOT been with a stallion, however kids take her out for walks (not anymore) and last September she was in a huge field with other big horses for 2 weeks, boys were gelded . So whats going on ? is this a false pregnancy?? what do you think?

If you put her right back in with a newly gelded horse, she could be pregnant. The swimmers don't croak instantly. Some will say they die in a couple of days, others will say 2 or so weeks, I'm not sure but you wouldn't be the first one to have a mare pregnant by a gelding.

She could also have a thyroid situation.

If she is foundered or has laminitis, you need to be on a serious program for that, a special diet that needs to be completely overhauled for her, supplements especially designed for it and medication and this should have been started at the first signs of it. You can't mess around with founder, its serious stuff and you need to begin a new program for her right away fast. You can pm me for my list of stuff for foundered horses.

One of my mares had a false pregnancy this year going as far as to have a false labor as well! But she had been exposed, did develop a bag, and went through all of the normal pregnant mare stuff. Your mare doesn't sound like a false pregnancy but something else. I would have blood pulled on her and have your vet do a work up.
