So you need two parents that at least both are or carry red, and one of them must carry cream. Crossing chestnut with cremello is 100% palomino.

K kaykay Guest Oct 19, 2005 #4 i know the breeders that breed for the really deep gold palomino color prefer to use a Palomino stallion and the dark red chestnut mares with red manes and tails. This supposedly keeps the color in the foals deeper and not so washed out looking.
