Palomino is a red based color with one cream gene.

So you need two parents that at least both are or carry red, and one of them must carry cream.

Crossing chestnut with cremello is 100% palomino.

i know the breeders that breed for the really deep gold palomino color prefer to use a Palomino stallion and the dark red chestnut mares with red manes and tails. This supposedly keeps the color in the foals deeper and not so washed out looking.
