Romulus 16 was gelded as a youngster like many showjumpers are but then went on to be an Olympic quality jumper - the owners solution - clone him and produce an exact genetic replica but with his breeding capability still in tact.

I remember reading about Gem Twist's clone when it was born. Very interesting-- I don't think I see anything wrong with it if it is restricted to cases such as this (clone a proven gelding to create a breeding stallion). That way there isn't any real disruption to the natural gene pool. I just hope it doesn't become a trend to clone horses with the purpose of competing the clone--that's when I think we enter the territory of manufacturing horses rather than breeding them.
