Clean the dark stuff off of the wood cart.

I have some dark, sorta looks like mildew, growth on a wooden cart. I have tried several types of soap but it does not want to come off. Any ideas?

If it is mildew, I would suggest a diluted solution of clorax bleach. It would kill the mildew and perhaps bleach it out enough to restain or paint it. Mary
