I have a mare that I will be showing this year for the first time. She has a very long and thick mane. What do I need to do to her mane to make her show ready? I am very excited about showing her, she is a silver bay. I just got her in September from SMHC. Bobby Wagner did show her as a yearling.

You can always take the clippers and undercut it to help thin it out. I would try and avoid doing it on the outside of the mane I just think it looks better if you cut it underneath the mane. If its longer then what you want you can just trim it but personally unless its like below the knee I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep it well conditioned with like Cowboy Magic.

Also get a mane tamer or slinky. That will flatten the mane and polish it.
