I have had people tell me that "This mare has Crushings" or "this horse has had Crushings for years". So what is it?

The 2 above articles are good.

I would add that Cushing's Disease (or some will describe Cushnoid symptoms) is really a human medicine term. In human medicine diseases are named after the first Dr to describe the disease. In this case Dr Cushing was the first to describe the disease (a neurosurgeon if I recall).

Hyperadrenocorticism or Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction are the Veterinary terms we use and are far more descriptive of the syndrome.
