What is the normal time period that a mare comes into foal heat? Is it 7 days after delivering or what?

I start teasing 7 days after the mare has foaled. I find from my own personal experience that they usually come into heat between 10 to 14 days. Of course some won't show foal heat. Some may not even come back into heat untill the foal is weaned!

I had a maiden mare last year who refused to come back into season until I started day weaning her foal...even then, she's was a very unwilling subject!!

Most annoying, but what can you do?? I don't like to use drugs if I can help it.

Believe it or not, I have a friend whose mare bred just 36 hours after foaling :new_shocked: My mares have been between 5 - 10 days here.

From what l see here with the mares they usually come back in around day 8 to 11. But we never breed on a foal heat it's what l always believed to be the cleaning out time for them.
