:aktion033: Thank you, Thank you, Thank You Very Much.............. As Elvis would have said it…………
The Sam’s Town show was host to 139 Miniatures and Shetlands including some gorgeous American Show Ponies. We were very pleased to have this many horses attend the Sam’s Town show on Memorial Day weekend. The show was more then pleased to see the number of horses from last year increase by double.
Exhibitors started rolling in on Thursday to this state of the facility, we were immediately impressed with the facility with RV hooks at the end of each stall roll. The covered out-door show arena was so large that we cut the ring in half and still had more then enough room, talk about being able to drive your pony on the rail and not run into a corner plus the footing was packed to perfection. The 10 X 10 matted stalls adjacent to the arena with very wide aisle ways were much appreciated by the exhibitors. The show office was conveniently located near the gate with the measuring station within sight. Not only did we have all of these major conveniences the horses got to experience warm water at the wash racks.
Thursday was a busy day of setting up the center ring along with decorating the party area in a Casino / Western Theme. Many were making comment on how nice the party area looked with skirted tables and decorations. What made this show weekend even more pleasant was the piped in continuous music with Elvis songs as the main theme.
Friday’s schedule of classes ended up at around 3:00 PM which gave many of us the opportunity to go experience the glist and glitter of the Casino’s… Many of us went to dinner at the Sam’s Town Casino buffet, a taste experience from shrimp to prime rib, steaks, Asian… It was a gourmet delight……… Plus a few bragged about their win from the slots. I heard Kirby Jones of Aloha made a killing at the slots on Saturday night.
Saturday morning’s schedule started with an 8:00 AM start…. The shows three judges & officials appeared on time to start the show, the show ran smoothly throughout the day. Not only could the exhibitors show their horses and win ribbons, they could do some shopping at the Double TT tack by trading in their ribbons for credit. The show offered a Ribbons Rewards Program - you could hand your ribbons to Double TT tack to pay for your purchases, many took advantage of the ribbon program.
Throughout Saturday the much anticipated party and live entertainment was talked about…….. Lea would not give up any information on the evening’s planned entertainment. The show ended around 5:00 PM which gave exhibitors time to put their horses away and get ready for the party including a buffet dinner of tasty chicken and side dishes plus birthday cake for Lisa form Ozark Mtn. tack. Not to mention the Watering Hole of Frozen Margarita’s for all of us throughout the weekend, which was hosted by the Tobins and the Killions.
The entertainment arrived with much excitement and cheers as Larry Laramore’s huge rig rolled in to center stage blowing the big air horn announcing their arrival……. The live stage show of Elvis and his back up singers Amber Waves of Grain and Barbie Belinda was an absolute crowd pleasers.
The ladies of the audience screamed and cooed over Elvis while the men of the crowd were eyeing up the girls…. Then all heck broke loose with Don Haverly went up to the ladies to tuck a buck and puckered up….. Of course that set the pace for a lineup of willing ladies to lay a few kisses on Elvis… and the men of course lined-up for the ladies. Many dollars were collected to support the youth of AMHS….. A very special dedication went out to two ladies in the crowd -- Elvis sang Happy Birthday to Lisa from Ozark Mtn Tack and Elvis’s famous red scarf was presented to the shows special guest Zona from the office.
The show was truly a lot of fun with serious competition – the AMHR Amateur mare class hosted 14 participates along with other classes that had 10 or more horses entered. We even had a couple of biker dudes roll in from Kentucky and show a couple of minis. The ASPR ponies were just awesome, thanks to the Wahls, Laramores, Bruce Ekstrom, Chuck McCallister and Larry Parnell for entering and showing such beautiful show ponies. The competition was tough, the spectators and exhibitors enjoyed a great line-up of miniatures and ponies.
Sunday we finished up around 5:00 PM which gave everyone a chance for a decent departure and some stayed over and headed out Monday morning… This was a great show weekend and I want to thank all the sponsors and exhibitors who gave to this show…. We could not have pulled it off without you… The facility is reserved for the same weekend for 2008 -- we hope you will all consider coming back to this show… Plans are already underway to make next years even bigger. Rumor had it that a California talent scout was out and about at the show. Talk has it that there may be an American Shetland Idol agent wanting to do some auditions at the show next year for famous Hollywood and rock singer impersonators. LOL….
