I seldom get on the Back Porch as my interest is primarily in learning and not just chatting. However, I wanted to send a Christmas message to all of you and I knew this was the proper place to do it.
I don't recall having a year when I have been busier. The other day I sat down for a few minutes and these words came to me. I do not consider myself a poet, but once every decade or so something seems to just flow out. I hope you will enjoy.
That Time of Year
As I take a moment to catch my breath
And think of the things I've not finished yet.
My mind goes back to that glorious time
When the angels reported the message divine.
The shepherds then rushed to see that great sight
The Son of God born on that first Christmas night.
They brought him no gifts except love and affection
No holiday treats or home-made confections.
God's love was the gift that was sent from on high
No hustle or bustle and presents to buy.
And for us it is joyous and a wonderful time.
But for God it must have been a time when he cried.
Because suffering and misery would be his son's fate
The author of love would be the subject of hate.
He came to this earth to die for our sins
The holiest of holy came to live among men.
So when the year rolls around to the end of December
Its fitting to sit back and take time to remember
God's twinkling lights are the stars in the sky
And his glittering tinsel is the tears that he cried.
His gift wasn't bought from the finest of stores
Yet no finer gift could ever cost more.
The love of the Savior who died for our sins
Came to earth that first Christmas to live among men.
