A friend told me that rice bran oil would really help give my gelding that extra he needs to be competitive in the show ring. Does anyone else use this? Has it worked for anyone? I'd love to hear opnions! Thanks!

While I haven't used an "oil", I have used stabilized rice bran. It's a granular product. It's basically fat, and that is what adds the shine. It works, but you may have to work off the extra fat.

Your trainer is more than likely speaking of Body Builder. Which is the purest form of Rice Bran Oil. It turns "chubby" into lean muscle and turns lanky into show quality. Rice bran oil should not have to be worked off. Although doseage is very important. The liquid is much better because it can be syringed into your gelding's mouth and you are sure of what he is taking in. The liquid is also easily absorbed and metabolized. There are I'm sure others with opinions but it is a product that I will never be without. It is the reason that several of my mares are able to settle and carry a foal. (which is the reason I purchased it the very first time) It makes my stallion more focused on his "job". With it, my weanlings and yearlings completely skip that lanky hay belly stage of life.

Yes, my trainer used Rice Bran oil on my stallion. The oil, not the BB. I'm going to try it on a couple of my horses this spring.

I use it. Oil for those that just need a little extra shine and just a tiny bit of bloom, and I do use the body builder on my stallions to keep them in show shape. It gives me what I need. I only use the BB on the hard keepers, and only for a short time to give that edge.

Just becareful and use the rice bran oil wisely and you will get that lean muscle you are looking for.

Hi,

Can i ask how it helps your mares settle and carry foals, i am having trouble with one of my mares and i will try anything if it might help..

Also where do you buy this rice oil, just from an everyday supermarket or is it from a specialist type shop for horses...?

Because the Body Builder contains Gamma Oryzanol which is the purest form of rice bran extract. It balances hormones in both stallions and mares. I personally had a National Champion mare on my farm that had a very hard time being settled and when she did she would either slip her foal early or carry almost full term and the foal never once survived. I brought her here to my farm within 2 months of being on BB she settled and carried a beauiful black and white filly to term. She delivered and passed the placenta within minutes and the foal was up running around wide open soon after. The GO naturally increases production of testosterone in males (no this does not make them hot) and estrogen in females. These hormone balances create increased fertility, easier conception, and healthier pregnancies. In my honest opinion the foals are receiving the product during gestation. I cannot tell you what a difference in the foals who dams are on BB vs. the ones that are not. I use the product because I saw it with my own eyes. OH...and I have several mares that prior to BB would retain the placenta with the BB they no longer do that. I know that BB is very important to alot of trainers for show horses and yes I use it on my show horses too but if I had to choose who received my broodmares or the show horses...no question...the show horses would just have to be worked harder to get them in shape although I do love the way it makes them more focused on their jobs. I will never go thru a breeding/foaling season with BB. I have a mare coming in a few weeks that was purchased strictly as a broodmare and several farms have been unable to get her in foal. I will let you know the progress. I am very excited. I lost several foals prior to using BB and I know the heartbreak that it brings. Please feel free to pm if you have further questions.

I don't think this is what you meant, is it?

I'd be interested in what dosage you use?

I buy mine from the supermarket- my Walmart has it, it is relatively expensive but it is a good grade oil.

It is good for people, too, use it in your salad dressings!!

The rice bran oil I have, its for horses, says 1 ounce for 1000# horse. [i used a syringe that shows ounce and ml, 1 ounce is about 33 ml; so for the minis I use 11 ml.] My horses don't like it this particular kind, but the stallion ate the Body Builder just fine last year; I mix it with the beet pulp, but he still isn't too thrilled.

With BB most of my horses doseage is 5cc daily (my 32yr old qtr horse takes 15cc daily). With the mare I spoke of in the earlier post she started on 10cc and remained on 10cc throughout gestation. My show horses are loaded on 10cc for 7 days and then 5cc is sufficient for a 33.5" mare and 29" yearling colt. But, be sure that if you giving to problem broodmares that the rice bran oil contains the GO that is what balances hormone levels...not the rice bran oil alone.

And as Chandad said...they get spoiled to the taste of BB. It tastes great. I know many humans who reap the benefits of it just as the horses have. I take it daily and with a change in diet have lost over 50 lbs since last June. But, I also know horse rescues that have used to help put weight on horses in poor condition/hard keepers. SO...once again, doseage doseage doseage is the key. Not the same for everyone or every horse.
