I have a miniature aussie and she has a pink nose. In the summer, it gets sunburned and in the winter it gets wind burned. She licks her nose a lot. I was wondering if there is anyway to blacken it, safely. People keep telling me to put shoe polish on it, but I don't know if that would hurt or not. I am afraid as much trouble as she has with her nose, it could turn to cancer. I had a horse in years past and he had a pink nose and got cancer. Any help would be welcome.

You might consider a strong sunblock to protect it during both seasons, a zinc oxide ointment (diaper rash paste) would help it to heal and protect it from drying out as well.
