Planting grass?

We have a small man-made hill that we are flattening in the pasture, where we want the barn. Should we plant grass on the disturbed dirt to grow while we build a barn and put up fencing? Rye grass? Any suggestions? I know alfalfa is not good.....

Check with your local Extension office or Dept of Ag office for the best grass options. We got a custom pasture grass seed mix from our Dept of Ag.

We used a cattle blend of seed when we did our place over 10 years ago.

We just seeded an area that was dug up to put in a septic (in my beloved pasture) We used "Paddock Mix" from Agway. It's a combo of bluegrass, orchard grass, timothy, and something else. Brome maybe but I'm not sure about that. I would think most feed type stores would have something similar on hand. We seeded about a month ago and have had good results.
