It’s so sad.
My sweet mare, Windy, has aborted her foal. She was about 240 days.
The good news is that she is fine.
Windy is my favorite mare. I am so thankful that she is OK. Though we continue to watch her.
This is my 1st experience with abortion, and I would appreciate any input from others.
For lack of a better way to explain.... It was like a foal delivery.
The fetus came out of the bag, and the placenta was expelled afterward.
I was there when it came out, so I did like I do with foal births. I collected it so I could examine and ensure it was intact.
It seems intact, and I do not think she has retained any....... which was my concern. But, I am puzzled by the placenta.
The placenta’s I have examined in the past have looked pretty-much like textbook pictures.
This is different from what I have seen before. It’s almost like 2 oddly shaped placenta’s.
And it looks like 2 openings. So, I think maybe twins. (I know twins are one cause of abortions.) But there is only one fetus.
I have looked on Google, but have found no pictures that look like this.
I have pictures below. One of the fetus, one of the placenta, and a close-up of the openings.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks,
Becky
