Well the "cure" was more or less a fishing trip!
Initially thought ulcers, started with Rinitadine and yogurt as I had those at home....got worse.
Called vet, next step was adding Carafate 3 x daily and gastrogard daily....no change after 1 week so next step
5 day deworm with double dose of Panacur...started researching other possibilities
A pm tipped me off to Lawsonia...follow up with the vet and blood screens (very low Albumen...slightly high fibrinogen) pointed to
Lawsonia (Not heard of in minis)
Rt dorsal colitis
Internal abscess
So we added Chloremphenical 3 x daily for 3 weeks.
She would not even look at new types of feed so just had to wait it out. She is still slow to clean up her grain but eats hay and grass, loves the "tea" from the soaked alfalfa cubes but doesn't eat much of the cubes themselves.
She is off all meds now except will keep up the gastrogard for a while...with all this cocktail of treatments sure can't hurt.
Lessons learned:
A good vet is priceless!
Asking for help from a broad audience (forum) helps-offers options outside of the normal path of diagnosis
A good vet is priceless!!
and a couple things we should all remember...
a skinny mini is not always the fault of the owner...
if you are doing everything you can think of and not getting results ask for help outside normal channels!!
