Hi folks

Just wondering if anyone followed the Meadowwood dispersal?

a gal in the rescue forum I frequent attended and made the following summary:

This was a herd dispersal sale in Snohomish of good quality animals. This sale was very well advertised with a pre-published list of all the animals and added the element of online bidding. I thought that I would post it here for comparison purposes. I will probably be posting a couple of the auction reports I take from other auctions eventually.

As always, these are not official or verified results, simply what I saw to the best of my knowledge during the auction.

I was at Meadow Wood - mainly to see the facility as I used to haul Arabian mares there for breeding many years ago. The main barn was amazing then... and it was sad to see that it has fallen into disrepair. Still would be good with some TLC - and still a fabulous barn under the peeling paint etc. The majority of the minis went for around $500 on average. One grey mare and what seemed to be her daughter went around 1000 each- I had no way to take notes. Many minis were of low quality IMO. A leopard Appy stallion went higher than he would have had he not been so loudly coloured. The other registered stallion went for slightly less. The best stallion IMO was a black guy with high white socks reminiscent of Sierra Dawm Uno's Monarch but too ld to have been a son - he was nice but sold as unregistered -I think he was $750?. No papers on any of them as I recall exceot the one Brewers Orion Appy stallion. Many sales were made via the internet. Far too many stallions.

Saddest of all were the Arab mares in their 20s of great Polish lines who sold for less than many of the minis - $250? Broke my heart. I hope that some of them were bought by Arab fans who knew them in the past. An elegant 5 year old chestnut Arabian stallion who was not registered yet (but paperwork was under way) went for about $2200.

I had to leave when the few Quarter Horses were coming in - and I also missed the Mammoth Jack and Poitou donkeys.

The folks who bought the place after the bank seized it have done a good job looking after all these animals for the past 4 months - they came into a real mess and deserve a lot of credit...

The riding and sales arena there is now full of hay and shavings and some panels for donkey pens... I remembered how it used to look - and I was rather sad when I left that such a grand place could fall apart like that...

Not that many people there, either. Not what I would have expected, anyway.

More later when I have time...

ETA: Nice to see the prices listed above! The grulla mini stallion was actually a silver dapple. I can use that list to jog my memory later!

I was really worried about the old gals but I have heard both of the really old mares sold via online bids. This is great news. And really good prices considering most were being sold without papers... my experience the last handful of years is that it's hard to give a horse away...

Thanks for making that posting.

I was so upset when I read of this dispersal and passed the info on to many.

I'm hoping they were all purchased by private individuals and went to deserving retirement homes

befitting all they gave, in their younger years.

There were some wonderful old Arabian bloodlines and it did seem that via the Arabian

forums, there was a lot of interest in saving these old timers from all across the USA.

Hope the KB's were discouraged from bidding in any fashion.

Those are pretty good prices for unregistered minis. I hope all of the animals went to good homes!

I agree. IMO, those are great prices for unregistered stock. I've seen registered, quality, young horses sell recently for those prices. I hope they all went to good homes.

Agree, definitely good prices for unregistered horses. Sad to have read about this the past few weeks. Especially the older Arab mares. Always makes me wonder what will happen to my gang should I fall over dead.

I've always wanted some Mini Donkeys, glad I wasn't there or I know I'd have been coming home full.

.
I did not see any dealers/KBs there. The sale was not big enough - as in not enough big horses - to be much of an attraction to them. The oldest mare there, Fiesta Z, was a bit thin and her hair coat reminded a bit of a Cushings horse - kins of wavy and curly in places,. She was feisty though - and refused to leave the sale ring in the normal direction. She just planted her feet and said NO.

They gave in to the old gal and took her out the in gate.

I used to work on a Polish Arabian and Mini farm whhich was how I used to visit Meadow Wood to drop off mares for breeding. I helped the people around me with some PA pedigree info - as well as how to pronounce some of the names of the sires and dams. Your-rope-pay-check was the closest one guy could get to a reference sire's name - it cracked me up. The auctioneer kept saying Negaz instead of Negatraz... and yes, most of the old mares sold online.

All the Arabs had been given a sedative to get them in the ring. Some were wobbly - some were feisty anyway! The mini donkey jacks gave the handlers some trouble at times.

Some of the minis there were not.... good quality. Some were average. Some were better - like the black stallion with stockings I commented on - this guy I think - #43 - $950 - Mini Horse, 2000 Black Leo Stallion. Another solid black stallion was quite nice as well - I think this was him - #48 - $375 - Mini Horse, 1999 Black Stallion.

I'll post again tonight about more of them when I have more time...

I was thinking that too as I saw those prices.

In this area an unregistered mini can be useful in our active 4-H driving program and CDE's but an older Arab mare is just going to eat and run up bills.

Poor things.

Thank God!

I remember visiting Meadow Wood with my 4-H club when I was younger and showing my Gdansk son, and seeing Negatraz and the other world-famous Polish stallions and how impressed I was that something like that was in my own backyard. If I hadn't been down at the NWMHC schooling show I would definitely have attended the auction but maybe it's better than I didn't.

Does anyone know who purchased, Brewers Orion Replica?

I was lucky enough to visit the farm a couple weeks ago as I was there for a few days. Beautiful Farm!!!

I watched online most of the miniature horses sell. I was very pleased with the prices of the horses. Better prices than I am used to seeing @ auctions in our area (central USA)

Replica went to (Cant think of the name
default_rolleyes.gif
)...the transport company that ships overseas that is in TX. Good price for a 16 yr old stallion!

Had a client go over - and she ended up with one of the appys. I am SHOCKED at the high prices. Truthfully, there are registered, and well-handled minis selling for LESS than these critters sold for.

I'd considered having her pickup one of the jenny donks, but for the prices they sold for - you can buy some registered and trained ones. Glad for the folks though...

These prices in NO WAY reflect the current horse market. They got lucky with internet advertising, FB, and "worry over the destinations" for these minis.

A friend of mine that owns Friesians went because she was interested in one of the mini donks and ended up coming home with a DARLING appy mini mare instead. She is black with white dots all over like someone dripped bleach on her, LOL! It is my friend's first mini. She is a driver, and this little gal will not only have a fantastic home, she will learn to drive and maybe compete in local CDE events. I am very happy for both the little mare, and my friend, who I am sure will now be excited about getting more involved with minis. :D

Thank you for the information. I was hoping he would go to someone who appreciated him.

It's so great to hear from someone who has first hand knowledge of one of the horses. How cool that she went to such a great home!

I am SHOCKED at the high prices.
So was I, to be honest. Most of the older minis were registered at some point - but all paperwork had disappeared. And some of them were only average or below in quality - going for more $$$$ than many registered, papered, and trained minis out there.

I originally thought that these two grey mares...

#35 - $1,400 - Mini Horse, 2002 White Mare#36 - $1,600 - Mini Horse, 2002 White Mare
... were mother and daughter when I saw them in their stalls - I thought that the year they were foaled (on the sign on the stall door) reflected that. But I guess I was wrong - they did have the same look about them.

The auctioneer called greyed out horses white and some not quite as grey horses roan and some silver dapples grey or grulla....
default_rolleyes.gif
... there was not a single grulla in the bunch. One little stallion looked to be a silver smokey black... similar to a mare I knew a while back.

#50 - $425 - Mini Horse, 1999 Bay/White Stallion#51 - $450 - Mini Horse, 2004 Chestnut/White Stallion
One of those two ^ was a fairly decent silver black pinto...

There were far too many stallions there that should have been geldings! JMO.
