Just a reminder that we need as many people as possible to pack the room at the Travis County Court House tomorrow, Wednesday, June 30, to support our cause to keep Carl and others able to practice in Texas. I know that this has been going on for a long time and we seem to lose our enthusiasm, but need to do everything possible to influence the judge that WE DO CARE and NEED THE SERVICES of equine dental specialists. Starts at 9, so if possible please be present at 8:30. Many of you have been great supporters and we appreciate you more than you know.

Thanks.

Oh boy..... I just wish this nightmare would end for Carl and everyone else who is involved in the Mini equine industry. This has gone on long enough!

If I lived close enough I would certainly join you there! Keep us posted on what happens this time- you have been really great at keeping us up to date, so thanks for that Tony! GO GET EM!!

Wish I was out there - I'd sure be in that court room.

I'll be contacting Carl soon to set up our normal January visit here in Florida. Wishing him the best of luck!!

Is anyone from North Texas going?

I wouldn't mind riding with someone. I just don't know that area very well.

Hi

Does anyone have an update of what transpired today? Looking forward to hearing of a postive outcome. Does this go on for two days? Did I see that somewhere?

Beth

Darn! If I'd seen this last night I could have gone too! I'm here for an interview. It wasn't until 11 so I might not have been able to stay for the whole thing.

Hearing was promptly at 9 this morning, and we were out by 11 as the judge had another commitment. In a nutshell, nothing was decided today. As I understood it today was primarily for the judge to decide whether the vet med board had violated protocol in changing their rules without going through the proper procedure. The judge will make a ruling on it after she has considered the case - if she rules in favor of Carl et al, it should remove the threat of legal proceedings against them at least until the case actually goes to trial and is decided. Tony, Carl...feel free to edit if I missed something.

Thank you, that sounds a bit more positive. How long before the Judge decides?

Beth

Thank you wildoak! Was sure wondering.... too bad they didnt make a ruling and get it over with!

I too hope that this is over soon for carl. We really missed him up in Minnesota this year. He is the one I trust to do my mini's dental care. We are rooting for you!

My minis didn't get to see Carl this Spring either, due to this fiasco in Texas! :arg! I'm in Ohio, but this affects EVERYONE who supports Carl or other Equine Dentists....regardless of what state you live in! If their right to practice is taken away in one state....you can be assured that others may follow.

Plus, all this litigation keeps them tied up so they don't have the time to travel around to see all their clients.

We can't afford to be complacent. I wish there was more that I could do!

are equine dentists banned there? why would that be ? who is supposed to float your minis teeth then , the vet?

The plan is that it is NOT banned there........and yes, if it's banned the vets will do it. But many vets don't know their *ss from their elbow when it comes to corrective equine dentistry.

If the vet board has its way, the dental practitioners won't be banned but will be able to work only under the direct supervision of a vet (also legal for the person who cleans stalls for the vet -or for me - to float teeth). That may be a great thing for some, esp someone just beginning their practice, but for someone like Carl with a well established clientele and expertise it's absolutely senseless. And yes, this indirectly affects all states - lots of state boards are watching what Texas does I'm sure. Farriers, chiropractors, massage therapists are all on the radar too in this "we need more regulation" mentality.

Virginia has Equine dentists allowed. The protocal is for passing tests, submitting background experience, reviews by vets/equine dentists, etc, etc. BUT.....allowed and controlled! Naturally, the vets must do any meds/tranqs, etc.

ALSO, Virginia just strengthened (effective 7/1) their abuse laws to require 6 mos jail/$1,000 fines as some minimum penalties. Our abuse laws are much stronger than many States. Maybe because we have some strong activities with horse boards, animal activists, etc.

Note this Shari, you are moving here

It's a pretty good area. I'm proud of that
