I need a new camera

Can anyone suggest a better camera that zooms in for close up shots of my animals? I bought the cannon 620 and I like everything but the close ups . Do I just look at what the zoom rate is?

I have a Canon Powershot S3 IS and it has a lot of zoom. You need to look at what the optical zoom (not so much the digital zoom) is.

This is the one I have, and it's come down in price quite a bit
