Hyperlipemia

I am looking at a mare that had Hyperlipemia in the past. It was a while ago and has had no problems since and has had several foals no problem. I have never had a horse with this so I don't know if there are long term issues? I need to figure out if she would be OK to purchase or is this something I always have to deal with?.

I would not hesitate to buy a horse that had hyperlipemia in the past. I have had 3 horses have this over the last 18 yrs and none ever had a recurrance. The condition is usually secondary to another issue. Weight management is the best preventative.

Same with us, she is doing great, several foals since that problem, with no more trouble.
