Tag- if that mare has Sooty as well that alone is enough to affect the colour of the legs and make them appear darker.

No signs of sooty with that mare - or her silver bay dam. Or from her chestnut sire.

So I do not think she has any sooty characteristics influencing her dark legs... in her shorter, glossy summer coat the legs are even darker... the same shade as the bay mares!
