This may be a dumb question, but I have looked for this in both of my horse books and can not find out what it is. A friend of mine has sick horses and it was suggested that it may be Epm.

Shortened version from a book - Equine Portozoal Myeloencephalitis - EPM is a neurological disease. It is caused by a parasite - infecting horse feed and water. The parasite makes it's way to the spinal cord and causes inflammation and eventually nerve cell damage. It causes lameness, incoordination and weakness. The horse does not have an accurate feeling of where his feet are. Therapy response is possible, without prompt treatment progressive incapacitation may necessitate euthanasia.

Here is a link I found - I didn't have time to read it, but it may be helpful for your friend - EPM
