Sorry, you have really had some bad luck this week. Please do not beat yourself up. Stuff happens and it hurts. I know. I bought my first mares in 2008 with the one prego one a first timer. I was not educated enough, trusted that my vet would show up, and what I ended up with was her water breaking at 6:00 p.m. while I was working overtime. Hubby had her in the front yard so other mares would not steal her food. Vet said "just let nature take it's course." He would not come out and is now a vet that I will slam as long as he practices. Poor girl had severe dystocia. Got an out of town vet to show up. He said the foal's head was turned all the way onto it's own neck and that she was too small inside to manipulate the foal. He helped put a blanket under her, pick her up, load her into a Ford escort hatchback, gave us phone number for an equine hospital 2 hours away, medicated her, gave me additional injections to use on the trip, and away we went. That night will forever be a nightmare but even though we watched a c-section performed on her, bid her little colt farewell, and went in debt we saved her. Both vets that treated her said end result would have been a c-section no matter what. But still it hurts to lose a foal and worry about what the mare is going through. You will probably never know the exact why and what of your foal not making it. Again, I am so sorry. For now the best you can do is concentrate on the well being of your mare.

I am so sorry!

Big hugs to you and your mare!

First foal for me and it was a red bag. I say red bag because of the position of the bag and the foals head, but then It might not have been. I missed the birth. Got home from work and April had her foal. Don't know if if it was red bag or just didn't get out of the bag. No warning signs, no bag, no milk,

. I was really looking forward to this little filly ( i knew April would have a filly) read all the books watched all the videos I could find, got the camera for the barn, been watching her, but all the preparation didn't help when it really counted.

I did all saving measures I'd read about, clearing the nose, rubbing, water bottle breathing, it just didn't help. I feel like I really let April down by not being there when she needed me.

I am so sorry for your loss!
