What do you have to do to get a horse qualified for the AMHA World? If I'm showing the mini in halter and driving.

The basic way to qualify is by earning the minimum amount of points required per class by competing in local shows. There is one set of points awarded per judge, and the amount of points you get depends on both your placing and the number of horses in the class.

At the back of the AMHA Rule Book you will find a list of the number of points required for each class. It varies from 0 points to 7 points.

The points chart is also in the rulebook, but to just to give you an example, if there are 3-5 horses in a class, 1st place will get one point. If there are 6-8 horses, 1st gets 2 points and 2nd gets 1 point. If there are 9-11 horses, 1st gets 3 points, 2nd gets 2 points and 3rd 1 point. It continues up to 6 points for 1st if there are 18 or more horses.

There are also some other ways to qualify: (i) by placing in the Top 5 at one of the Championship shows (you will be qualified for that class only); (ii) a horse will be qualified for its open halter class if it earns 1 Grand Championship or 2 Reserves as long as there were at least 6 horses in that division, i.e. Sr. Mares; (iii) Some classes are designated as 'Reasonable Attempt' classes, where you just need 3 first places but it doesn't matter how many horses are in the classes; (iv) If you're in Region 10 or 11 and I think there's one more region, you can qualify for 2009 only by simply attending 2 shows - whatever classes you show in twice, you'll be qualified for.

The rulebook is here: Show Rules

To highlight a key point (Kim touched on it):

There is no blanket qualification like in AMHR. A horse has to qualify in each class in which they show.

So it's entirely possible to not qualify in 1 class but be qualified to show in 5 others.

Also, in 2008 ALL classes were deemed "Reasonable Attempt" classes. Any horse who was shown in a particular class under two judges was qualified for that class at worlds. They may or may not do that again this year, but I assumed they did it to encourage as many exhibitors to compete as possible. Everyone is having to pinch here and there because of the economy they were probably worried about losing the participation, people were staying home to save money.

Was this for AMHA or AMHR?

Ok, that was as clear as mud for me. My question would be, How many points do you need to qualify and do you need to qualify in every event you want to show in i.e. Halter, hunter, pleasure driving, etc.

It varies from class to class. You'll need to check the AMHA rulebook.

I have looked at the rule book. It talks in circles. I guess what I need is someone to say, "you need "X" number of points to qualify for this class for worlds". AND maybe, You do or do not have to qualify for each class you show in at worlds. I can not figure it out reading the rule book. I guess I need "AMHA RULES FOR DUMMY'S" since my illness last June.

Katiean- Look in the very back of the Rule Book. It will list every class and the number of qualifying points, if any, that are needed. I don't have my book right here so I can't give you the pg numbers. But, it is at the very end- you can also find it in the Rule Book On Line- at the end.

Good luck-

Peggy

Katiean, as Peggy pointed out, you need to qualify in every class you wish to show in at AMHA World. Thre are a few classes that have 0 qualifying points and those are listed. The required point qualifications are in the back of the AMHA rule book on pages 141 - 144. The rule book is also online on the AMHA website.

I don't have a 2009 rulebook yet, but the pages in the 2008 rulebook are 137-140 that list how many points you need in each class in order to qualify. I'd also like to point out that if you get first in a class of 1-2 horses you will earn 1/2 point per judge.

Each class varies in the amount of points needed, and you have to qualify in every class you want to show in. For example... Open Jumper takes 4 points, Amateur only takes 2, while open hunter takes 2 and Amateur Hunter takes 1.

I didn't get a 2009 rule book. Do you have to buy it extra? I know with rabbits you have to buy the rule book but it is good for 5 years. I will look on line.

I'm not sure if 2009 Rule Books are available yet, but contact the AMHA and they will send you one when they are ready. They are free for members. The 2008 one is online at the link I put in my previous post.

Here's the list of how many points are required for each class (from the 2008 Rule Book) for those who were unable to find the information in the online reulbook:

The 2009 Rule Book is available free of charge. You just need to request one from AMHA. The pages I quoted are from the 2009 Rule Book.

Just remember, the point list Kim put up is from the 2008 rule book so there may be changes in the points required for 2009. But Kim's post gives you an idea of how many points might be required.

Call or email AMHA and ask them to send you a 2009 copy.
