"As far as taxes go, I think we need a flat rate income tax straight across the board. For example, if John Doe makes $10,000 a year and his tax rate is 5 percent, then Donald Trump, who makes who knows how much a year, should pay the same 5 percent. ( The 5 percent figure is just a number out of the air.) Why discriminate against income classes when it comes to taxes?

Maybe we should just do away with income taxes all together and go to a national flat rate sales tax. That way, everybody will pay their fair share. No tax dodging, no tax deduction fraud, no billions of dollars spent year after year in printing up tax booklets and forms to file income taxes. Just think of the revenue this country could bring in and think of the money that could be saved. Everyone from the local drug dealer to the highest paid tax dodger would be paying sales taxes. Would also help do away with the bickering about where our income tax dollars are spent.

Change "welfare" to "workfare". Every town and county has roads and highways full of trash that could be picked up or weeds chopped.. the list goes on. There is always something that people could do to earn their welfare dollars."

We here at Rancho Sundowner in the County of Madera in the fine Republic of California cast our ballot for The Next President of the United States of America, TANGO!!!

I didn't choose a straight 'yes' or 'no', but want to say, I would SERIOUSLY consider a 'yes'!

I don't know why anyone think that it is fair to take more from someone who has worked harder and been successful. Sure some people are more wealthy due to luck, inheritance, whatever. But the majority of those are wealthy because they've earned it, perhaps have paid thousands in student loans to get where they are, took risks that others wouldn't take, work very high stress jobs. Even actors/pop stars/sports figures, etc...should all pay the same percent of taxes (even though I feel the amt of $ they earn is ridiculous for what they do), that's beside the point.

I probably make more than the average American, BUT I am still paying student loans off (many years later) that I can't even wright off my taxes, I work a high stress job. I busted butt for years, working a full time job and part time job while attending full time college. I did not come from a wealthy family or even middle class, but I've worked very hard and continue to do so daily, so why should I pay a higher % in taxes...please tell me how that is fair????

I was not fortunate, I worked hard and now I get penalized by seeing less than half of my paycheck every two weeks.

I hope those that do think this is fair someday work their way up the money chain and then let's see how they feel when Uncle Sam takes more than half of their pay while others sit on their @ss and do nothing. I am all for a handup, but never for a handout!

I do not waste my time going to a fact check link. Sorry.

I didn't ask for a link but a simple question, In ones own opinion, is it just that those who may have worked harder deserve to be penalized by being taxed more?

Yes, I believe that those that are better able to pay should pay more. I also vote republican.
Why do you believe that? And at what point would be enough?

Sonya, I'm sorry unbiased factual resources bother you so much.

I also don't see people with more money paying higher taxes as being 'penalized'. As I pointed out on my thread about socialism, the richest 1% of Americans hold 38% of the wealth, while the bottom 40% of Americans hold only 1%. You're telling me that top 1%, or even the top 10% can't afford to pay a little bit more than the bottom 40%, where for a lot of families I'd imagine every last cent counts?

factcheck unbiased...that's funny. It is terribly hard these days to find unbiased sources, no matter what side you are on.

True, but if you read their reasons, the opponents reasons, and figure where the truth lies, you can see and make your own choice.

even the top 10% can't afford to pay a little bit more than the bottom 40%
because they might be able to "afford" it, does that make it right? I certainly do not want taxes to go up for anyone, but to increase the burden on others just because they might be able to "afford" it certainly isn't just.

Someone on here had a great comparison of this on another post using minis as an example, putting it in perspective. Person A has bought two buckeroo offspring to improve their herd. Person B can't afford buckeroo offspring for whatever reason, but they too would like to have a buckeroo offspring to improve their herd...is it ok to then take one said mini from person A and give it to person B? I know sounds like a silly comparison, but is essentially the same. And we do this already, but increase it??? When does it stop???

It is funny with the taxes I pay now, I could essentially take a job making alot less of what I'm making and bring home the same amount because it would put me in a lower tax bracket. I am being penalized? Sure seems like it, I am working a harder job for nothing essentially, other than personal satisfaction. If it weren't for the fact that I have a high standard of personal satisfaction, I probably would take the less paying job, it certainly would be easier on me.

edited to add: I guess you could say I'm working harder to help others, which could be true to a certain extent, but with as free as our govt is with our $ and the crap they use it for, I just find that hard to believe.

Lowrise, I'm thinking Sonya wants our opinions not facts and figures. I do not think People who work hard for themselves to get where they are in life should be penalized. And this is wierd for me to say because I am on the poor end of the stick. I made some bad choices and decisions in life and because of my hubands strokes and health issues have severely depleted my lifestyle. But under no circumstances would I expect Jill, Sonya or anyone else to give up part of their money to help me. I am responsible for my own lifestyle, no one made my choices except me. The hardest thing for me to give up was my horses. I still miss them an awful lot

but I just could no longer afford them and give them what they needed. I still cry when I think of them. But I still don't expect a handout.
