Just this morning, I saw a couple on the Today show with a toddler who had Cerebral Palsy. Those parents had saved the naval cord blood, and only made up their mind to do so about two weeks before the baby's delivery. The reason it took them so long to decide was because they were expecting a normal, healthy baby, and saving the blood was terribly expensive, and not covered by insurance. Anyway, the blood has now been transfused into the little boy, and 5 days later, he started making a lot of improvement. The father said that the Dr.'s are hopeful that by age 7, the child will show no more evidence of CP. He will be cured. The differences the film showed on the before and after the transfusion was miraculous! Yes, I am for stem cell research, but we don't have to kill babies to get it. For those that are against it, please educate yourself more on the subject, and for those who are against it for religious reasons, please just remember that if God gave us the knowledge to use it, he must want us to use it. HE has taught us to use blood, organs for transplants, and many miraculous things, so here is one more thing for us to learn and use. I normally will not discuss politics or religion with anyone, but on the subject of stem cell, I feel it is such a cure for so many things. If nothing else, we can try to get the saving of the naval blood less expensive, and also try to get the insurance companies to pay, or pay a percentage of the costs, and that can be "banked" for future illnesses and catastrophic diseases. (Putting on my flame suit now for believing in something so unpopular)
