I have a bay truning grey colt that I need to send in his paperwork. His sire was the same way and from the pictures, they registered him as a grullo and not grey. He was already 2 at that time. Is this common for them to do this? If I were to send in his pictures now, they will see a bay colt, not grey. Or do you register them as bay since it is their base coat? How do you grey breeders handle this?

You regsiture as a base color then put in "may change colors" in the markings. When you bring perm then you switch to gray.

Only way I have been able to do it so far.

I have a colt (now gelding) that is turning gray --- did not show up in foal photos -- so both registries registered him as BAY even though I specified Bay turning gray. I will change the color in his permanent papers --- and as I reported it at birth - will argue that I should not have to pay for a color change, should they decide to charge me.
