I am just heartbroken this morning..many of you saw the wee roan colt that was offered through the auction..well we had the high bid. Last night he was injured. He severly injured his eye..just spoke to the current owner and she is devasted. she says the whole side of his head is a bloody mess and he has discharge on his nostril, extremely swelling and it looks like the eyeball is just gone. Her husband is a vet and they doing everything they can. She is just very helpful and a very NICE lady!

She will email me pictures of the feeder and the horse. Please pray for that Beautiful little guy!!

 Oh no! I am sooo sorry. I hope and pray that with time, the swelling will go down and even though he may lose an eye, there will be no other permanent damage to him.

: Poor little guy.

Oh, no! At least he has an in-house vet, so you know he'll get the best of care. I wish you both luck!

Oh Christine, I'm so sorry!

I bought a filly that got injured too, before coming home; I was paying vet bills on her after barely sending my down payment. These horses, seems like it's always something.

: My filly healed up just fine though, no sign of her ever being injured. I'll be praying that your little guy will be just fine, and praying that his eye is going to be fine after all (maybe the injury is such a mess initially that they couldn't tell?) Good luck, sending good thoughts!

You certainly have my best wishes for a quick recovery for him.

I am so sorry this happened.

Oh Christine! I pray he will be ok! If there is trouble a mini will find it. Keep us updated when you can. Hugs.

Thank you guys..and a word of warning..it was a homemade feeder that did the damage..sooo PLEASE be careful !! Think like a horse would and make sure the feeders you using are SAFE !!

If you like to see the feeder you can email me.

Christine, I am so sorry about your colt. But don't give up on him. We had the samething happen with a

filly. She spent 2 weeks at a Vet, but they saved her eye, and she has full sight. She had rubbed her eye

on side of feeder. She tore her eye ball, it was melting out. It was beyond gross. They called in an eye

specialist, who put her on eye medication. It took several months to heal, she stayed in the Vets office for

about 2 weeks, then came home. While in the Vet hospital we had to take her friend down and leave with her, so she had a buddy, to help her. She also was on pain meds, as the eye was very painful.

First they said she would loose the eye, then they said she keep the eye but be blind, when I pick her up, they said she past the eye test and could see, but did not know how much. She came home, and was still with her friend. I put meds in her eye for several months. Her eye healed and she has full vision.

I know most of it was Prayers, and the rest was medication.

My prayers are with your little colt.

Vicky

I am sorry for both parties involved and the wee little mini. Some times I think head injuries bleed profusely and often look worse than expected. I do hope his eye is ok and he will heal quickly and nicely. Years ago we had a feeder we purchased from a store and a mini figured out how to get caught in it too! Seems like if they can find a way to get hurt they do! Lavonne
