Message Attached::::::::

We have had quite a tragedy at our ranch the last few days, and

after talking to my attorney she gave me the go ahead to tell others

about it. I wormed 5 of my horses with BIMECTIN wormer on

WEDNESDAY, when I went out to give them breakfast on THURSDAY, they

looked sick. My vet was contacted. Long story short, by FRIDAY

they where down and could not get up, and by saturday and sunday

they DIED. The other horses wormed the same day with a DIFFRENT

wormer are FINE. These horses had the same feed, water, hay etc, the

ONLY diffrence in the horses was the WORMER. My vet after seeing

them told me he HAS seen this BEFORE. A MASSIVE overdose of

wormer. Normally a batch of wormer made too strong at the factory.

THIS IS ONLY A SUSPICION ON MY PART. I AM NOT ACCUSSING THE COMPANY,

I AM ONLY PUTTING OUT MY STORY TO LET PEOPLE MADE THEIR OWN

DECISIONS. The necropsys will be preformed on the horses and the

wormers that i still have from the case with the same lot numbers

will be going to independant labs for testing. We lost, 2 young

stallions, 1 PREG mare (due in june) 1 yearling, and 1 weanling is

still breathing as I type but we expect her to die.

Second email:

First I would like to thank everyone for their kind words and

support, our whole family is devestated both the two legged ones and

the four legged ones. My doc wanted to give me a sedetive today, but

I have pulled myself together a bit, I pulled the tarp back to pat

them one last time, and it appears the coyotes had come and their

eyes and lips where missing.I lost it for a bit, and our neighbour

is a doc and came over, I have settled into shock the doc says, at

the moment I feel both sad, numb and VERY angry. I few people have

asked questions of private mail and open so ill try to answer the

ones i remember here. My horses are wormed every 6 weeks, normally

with EQUIMAX wormer. They are all up to date with their vaccinations.

All other horses NOT wormed with BIMECTIN are all fine. The weanling

is still down but breathing slowly, no nasal discharge, ok heart

beat, no sweating. The wormer is made in CANADA and distrubited in

both the USA and CANADA I have seen it advertised in both COUNTRY

SUPPLY and JEFFEIRS EQUINE catalogs. My horses have had ivermectin

based wormers all their lives. There are no allergys in the

bloodlines to anything, as far as i know and they have been on

ivermectin all their lives with no problems.

The lot number is 5J019 The 0 is either a number or the letter O its

hard to tell. the EXP is 07 SEP IF ANYONE HAS THIS LOT OR HAS USED

THIS LOT, PLEASE CONTACT ME ASAP. we are trying to investigate this

and need all the help I can get, and IF it is a bad batch we NEED to

know what other horses have been effected, how and when they where

effected, etc. So PLEASE contact me if you have had or know of

any problems with this batch number OR if you have used this batch

and had NO problems, we need to know the scope of all this.. I was

told there are THOUSANDS of doses made per batch, I dont know for

sure, but if even 50 -100 are produced and it is bad, we all need

to know asap. If you know of anyone having a horse get sick or

dying also please have them contact me (if they used a wormer or

product made by this company) IF it is a bad batch im sure there are

other sick horses out there, but they either havent connected it to

the wormer (possibly!) or they havent said anything to anyone about

it. Again thankyou all for your support, it means alot to us at

this time, I think it will take awhile for the full horror of it all

to sink in.The worst thing is we where doing the right thing for our

horses, and they died (possibly) because of it. It makes one never

want to worm again.....

Kerry

Again, this is forwarded to everyone out there.

ALL OF YOU DO NOT PANIC!!!

This product is Ivermectin and nothing else. The only thing I can think of is that it is contaminated- you would have to dose at over 10 X the dosage to potentially get a reaction- and then the symptoms were not as described and all animals recovered within 48hrs.

As far as I know there is NO reason to believe Ivermectin is not safe.

As said, I believe this is a contaminated batch.

Whatever the findings, my heart goes out to the owner- this is a terrible thing to happen to anyone and I really hope they can come up with some conclusive findings to set her heart at rest.

I'm not going to panic, but I DID deworm a whole bunch of horses with this product over the past 2 months and no problems resulted.

I would like to get to the bottom of this and find out what I need to do with the 9 tubes I have left. It's a GREAT product with apple flavoring that the horses like.

Let's keep these threads going until we hear an answer.

I saw that too, not the email though, and read this article. I took it to read not safe for dogs/cats and possibly not lactating mares. Some places have pulled it from their shelves....lot #5J019... and i see that is true. I used it 3 weeks ago and everyone is fine. Don't panic. I am sure they are checking into it since it is pulled off Webpage

to name one.

I am not panicking here either. I have 2 cases (24) left, and have just wormed some horses with it and no problems. Mine does have a differant lot # however. I also talked to Country Supply after hearing this and I was told the manufacture is trying to get to the bottom of this..and I was given a phone # to call back on Thursday. I will post whatever they tell me on the phone. This could be speculation only. And, like Jane said ivermectin is one of the safest wormers to worm with. Corinne

Well, I'm not panicing, but I do have 8 tubes of Bimectin from that lot#. I am choosing not use it and have equimectrin on order for replacement. I have never had any problems with ivermectin products nor worming my horses with them, so I'll just go back to using the Equimectrin, which we have used for several years with no problems.

Jane is probably right, at worst it is a contaminated lot.

Or, possibly a hoax; they always seem so real.

FYI

I called Bimeda a moment ago as I have 25 or so tubes of this lot number AND dewormed this weekend including giving one mare about 3x what she should have....

http://www.bimeda.com/dotcom/contact.htm

Okay, per Bimeda this is a HOAX.

Just re-checked my horses (H did) and all still fine.

Bimeda emailing me a press release and I will cut and paste it here for you all. The rep on the phone told me they had tested that lot number b/c the rumor and it is fine. I will share that release as soon as I get it in email.

ALSO, I have used generic Ivermectin for years, no problems. I really was thrilled about Bimectin (and think I still am) as it is supposedly good tasting. It will be nice eventually my horses will look forward to being de-wormed ...

It sounded like a hoax from the beginning. Whenever there is a product recall, the information comes from the company, not from some email circulated across the internet.

I look forward to receiving the Press Release.
