Is there anyone out there that has had to refrain from eating any foods containing sugars, flours, yeasts, etc...

I am finding that I have intolerances to those types....and am pretty sick when I eat them. Not sure what the heck I'll eat lolol

What are your experiences, what do you eat. etc.

Do you think you might have a form of celiac disease? My sister has dealt with something like this for a while and substitutes things like rice flour, for wheat, etc.

Hope you like meat and veggies

Not all "flours" are the same, so you might check out the health food aisle. Amazing the number of things that can be substituted..........and that are available for "substitution", such as premixes. Go to a place with a full line. Plant sweeteners -- stevia -- maybe?

I think I'd go to a Dr and find what you are having reactions to as it would greatly streamline your search for foods that don't offend your system. Possibly it isn't all those items you mention but you are eating things with combo and only one is doing the dirty deed....??

Wishing you good results!!

Connie,

My niece has Celiac, and can not have ANYthing that has even TOUCHED something with wheat flour of any kind... she even has to use a seperate toaster for her bread made of other flours!!

Sometimes those type of things are related to an auto immune issue.... have you been tested for any of those?

There ARE other alternatives of things to eat. Since my SO's bout with Lymphoma, I do not use white sugar any more either. We use stevia, which is very good. Also quit eating processed foods and went back to just cooking real stuff.

Make SURE you are reading the labels on everything you buy. Many things from vitamins, to mustard, catsup, salad dressings, and all sorts of things have sugar, wheat gluten or something from wheat, etc.... Some folks with Celiac also develope lactose intolerance as well. The damage to the intestines can be healed with time..... I am beginning to wonder if some of my problems are not related to something like this.... Also, many people with Celiac, also become lactose intolerant as well. (I have that and also Raynauds)

My niece and her sister are in the process of putting together a Celiac website, not done yet, but she is FULL of info on this problem!!

I recommend that you be tested for Auto Immune problems with a blood test! They can tell if you have this, or something else, and can narrow down if you have an Auto Immune issue, then of WHAT. This is many times NOT just a food allergy problem. Insist that your doctor take a look at this!!

I can't add any salt or cow dairy in my foods. Very allergic to cow dairy, same with my DS.

My sister can't have the cow dairy, wheat, chocolate and something else..which I forget. She has had extensive allergy testing done. Her daughter is the same way.

Can be a challenge cooking at first.

I have to home make all my food including bread..if I want to eat bread.

My Sister buys a nice Rice flour bread at her local health food store. There are also a number of online stores that deal in specialized foods.

If you haven't already... I would highly recommend allergy testing. Can be time consuming and painfull but very important I think.

Just to let you know, the ONLY true test to confirm Celiac Disease, is a biopsy of your intestine (done via endoscopy) to see if the villi are flattened. Blood tests are NOT ACCURATE!!! I have been knowledgable about Celiac Disease for over 17 years as my Mother, Brother, and I all suffer from it.

DH was diagnosed with Celiac Disease approx 2 months ago. After diagnosis, with a change in diet and reading labels, he is a changed person. He found out that he can't have foods that have been processed near or have touched wheat flour. They are now starting to put on the labels that the item has been in an area that wheat products are processed. I now look for gluten free foods. Resturants here are now advertising and serving gluten free dinners as this disease is prevelant. If you google Celiac there are news letters that come out with receipe ideas and updates on the disease.

Wishing you well...

Interesting info... but the villa can be flattened from other things too.. Soy and casein possibly.

I am gluten intolerant. About 4 years ago I started getting violently ill after eating foods with gluten. For up to 4 hours I was in utter agony: throwing up, diarrhea, awful awful stomach pains. It's hard to describe the "pain". It's not sharp. It's not dull. It's just altogether a different kind of "pain". It took me 2 specialists and a year to figure it out. I lost 15 pounds in the process (I am 5'10" and 150 pounds at my heaviest...so I was pretty gaunt

). For about two years I'd have an episode a month or so because I wasn't being as careful and WOW there is gluten/wheat in, like, EVERYTHING! I haven't had a hint of anything in probably 2 years. I'm very very very careful. Whenever we go to restaurant I'll ask and sometimes Kev will say, "Oh, it probably doesn't have wheat in it"...I err on the side of caution. The "probably doesn't" is what used to get me sick. I have to be 110% positive that it doesn't. That said, there are a lot of yummy things that I eat that don't have wheat. I love my salads, chicken, salmon, trout (all seafood really) and potatoes, and rice bread. I'm healthier now than I've ever been. Bye bye cakes, pies and cookies etc.

P.S. There are alternatives, though. You can bake yummy gluten-free cakes, cookies etc. There's a book called the Gluten Free Gourmet that I use.

Actually. Even with a biopsy, you have to be having an "attack" to have confirmation. I had a biopsy and it didn't show. Silly, huh?

Thanks for the book recommendation Matt!

I have been having some serious problems since early January and have almost gone to the ER about three times because I was in so much pain. After two CT scans (one without and one with dye) and an MRI, they can't 'see' anything.

I did notice that it seemed to be worse after eating peanuts, but I have not had any of those in three months now, and am still fighting with this. It's not a pain in the stomache, but total intestines from top to bottom in various places, terrible bloating, etc..... I am already lactose intolerant, which can sometimes go hand in hand with Celiac also, because the intestines cannot manage food right while messed up.

Since I am in the hole now for the doctor bills I have already incurred, and can't afford more tests and they have NO idea what else to look at, I have removed most of the wheat from my diet this last couple of weeks. I felt better this morning than I have in a long while, but am still having some trouble, but like I said, I have removed MOST of the wheat products, not all. I had a few pieces of pasta with lunch yesterday and a tiny bit over the weekend.

When you have the pain, does it go from your rib cage all the way down all over? From left to right? (Some areas worse than others) The gas buildup is so bad my clothes dont even fit and the pressure on my entire abdomen makes it worse. My innards start rumbling really loudly when it starts to flare up worse, but it has never gone away in the last several months.

Any ideas here from anyone having something similar?
