Scooters Story,
Several months ago Cheryl Powell DVM. in Colerain, NC. contacted us about a poor little neglected dwarf named Scooter! When Scooter was born he was unable to get his legs under him! He was all spread out like doing the splits on ice! Cheryl was able to wrap his legs to where he could nurse! She brought in a corrective farrier to trim Scooter so he could stand, and he did stand! All was going good for Scooter, so one day Cheryl decided to stop by just to see how he was doing! She found Scooter standing in manure up to his knees in a pen no bigger than a 5'X 6'. His feet hadn't been trimmed since he was born and left the hospital! About 5 months! He was back down on the side of his hooves again! Needless to say Cheryl was livid! She called me ranting and raving about how they were treating Scooter! I told her, being that she was a vet, she could demand his release into her care! Then she could turn him over to us when the time was right! Cheryl demanded Scooter be taken to her vet clinic and the people who had Scooter folded under her pressure!
Cheryl and the girls at her clinic pooled their money and paid for Scooter so he wouldn't return to the bad situation he was in!
Scooter has been at the clinic since before Christmas! He came in with a lung infection and very poor weight! :-( Since he arrived at the clinic, Cheryl has gelded him and had a corrective farrier working on his feet every other week! Scooter is now standing on the bottom of his hooves! His lung infection has cleared fully!
After many months on had work and many phone calls and emails, Scooter will be released to me and Wanalynn tomorrow at the Mt. Airy Sale in NC.
Friday- Day 1
I'm leaving early in the morning for Mt.Airy to pick Scooter up from Cheryl! It's about 3 hours from us! If alls goes as planned, Scooter will be here on our farm tomorrow afternoon! Please say a little prayer for Scooter and me for a safe trip tomorrow! And also, say a thank you prayer to Cheryl for sticking to her guns and getting Scooter out of a terrible situation!
I will get some pix of Scooter when we are back home safe and sound!
