How long after you plant rye grass, and it comes up nice and spring green, should you wait until you let your horse eat it?

I heard it isn't good to let them eat "fresh, baby" grasses too soon as it is full of sugar and could cause colic problems, etc.

Thanks!

Well so you don't destroy your planting and waist the time and money, because grazing too quickly can cause problems with killing it ioff. I would wait at least 60 days, but that is myself. Many of your grasses say about 8-12 inches before grazing. Especially if it is a first planting, so that the root system can become well established.
