I asked my vet one time why he removed some of the skin from the scrotum and he said it kept the horse from "squeeking" when exercised or doing a lot of trotting. Not removing it (in his opinion) allowed for air to enter that area (don't ask me how) when the animal was exercised and caused the "squeek". Most of my gelding were done by this vet and no problems. I bought one gelding one time that has some excess skin and he always "squeeked" when he drove.

Don't know if this is actually true or not, just the reasoning my vet gave for removing some of the extra skin.
