Came home from work today to find my little mare dead in her barn. This is the mare that lost her foal last month and we had to pull the foal. The vet said then that we still had the risk of loosing the mare due to the hard time getting the foal out. Well, I thought it would have happened sooner than later. I thought we were out of the woods. She looked to have died suddenly so I don't think she suffered. She was fine this morning when I fed and ate like normal. She never showed any signs of being in trouble. No sign of struggle and looks like she just collapsed. Hubby (paramedic) thinks she may have had an aneurysm and it burst killing her instantly. Looks like her abdomen is full of fluid, probably blood.
Again, I've been very lucky not having problems until this year.
Rest in Peace sweet Honey Bun.
