I wondered if anyone has ever taken their teenage children to Las Vegas and if so where did you stay?

I'm toying with the idea of surprising my girls with a mini holiday and hopefully an inexpensive one as I plan to win at blackjack!

It's been years since I've been there and I had only ever stayed at Ceasar's. I know that there are a tremondous amount of hotels that have been put up in the last 15 years and some are better suited for older kids staying with family. Some look spectacular in the brochures but I'd rather get a recommendation if there are any???

Thanks for any help on this one.

P.S. I do not wish to stay downtown with the cowboy please and I am not necessarily looking for inexpensive. I would like something very nice and fun for the girls.

Circus, Circus, it has the arcade, which will help keep them busy it is also on the stirip and there are alot of shops and things to just go see. Like the m&m factory toward the southern end of the strip. If they like people watching its great. it would put you close to treasure island and their show at night and all of the other big casinos that do the water shows and light shows.

Most of the hotels have theaters and bowling alleys in house if they are interested.

I lived there for two years . If you want to be further from the strip, I would suggest Sams town. It is about 7 miles from the strip.

If you are going to gamble I dont think there is any casino that will allow the kids on the floor. You must keep them away from all gaming areas untill they are I believe it is 18

I do believe the AMHR Convention next year will be using Circus Circus as their host hotel. Sounds like a great spot for the teenage girls. They love to tour so I thought of renting a car and heading out to Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon and such. It was alot of fun for me way back when....

Thankfully, the girls would NOT BE ABLE to gamble as I have always considered it a form of entertainment with a limit to my lose. I just think it would be a thrill to see Vegas with my girls...maybe it's me that really needs the thrill and I'm using them as the excuse???

I would imagine they would really enjoy all the lights at night. It can be amazing. Circus circus is a little below the, the arcade I mean but they do have circus acts they do up there so you know.... they would probably rather be watching the teenage boys. Sorry couldnt resist.

If you are going during the week, there are a few spots for site seeing like the clown factory, and I think there is a marshmellow factory and also the candy factory.

Hoover dam is ok i like the scenery the most. and had a friend whos dad used to travel up the river before it was tamed so that made it much more interesting.

My son and his family go over every once in a while and are going this weekend as my grandaughter is playing in a softball tournament this week end.

I live about three hours north of Las Vegas and usually spend the whole week of the NFR down there.

MGM Grand is great, very nice

Circus Circus is fun, but not exceptionally high class

Excalibur is really nice (stayed there last year) it's not too crowded with the cowboy type.

If you're thinking not on the strip the Sun Coast is a nice place, but it's a ways from all the action of the strip and such.

If you are thinking high class and lots of fun I'd say anything on the strip is what you want. You can stay about anywhere except the RIO, the Gold Coast, and Gilleys. Those three are the BIG cowboy hang outs at that time of year. So I'd stay away from there if you don't want that crowd around. Those are pretty much the three they frequent though so otherwise you'd be pretty well away from that. I go to hang out with the rodeo crowd because that is where I catch up with all my friends, it's just a big get together, however I'm 22 and know pretty much that whole crowd so it's different for me.

I hope this helps you out and have a great time, it's a blast down there!!!

hey y'all i can help with this one seeing as though I was born and raised there. Personally i wouldn't even take them because if you want to play blackjack then you won't be able to watch them and i wouldn't trust them alone in the sin city. you wound't get to enjoy yourself as much. but if you do want to take them them pm me and i will let you know of a few great places underage approved

Hey Voodoo? What do you mean by big cowboys?
ohmy.gif
Will I know them by the big cowboy hats they wear? LOL

Just teasing.

The last time I was in Vegas the MGM had burned down a couple of years later, I think.

Obviously they have re-built. I loved going there to see the shows and thought it was one of the nicest and most pleasant to be. Service was wonderful. MGM sounds nice and Excalibur has been referred to me once before so will look into that one too.

What's the average temp. in Vegas late Dec. early Jan? Will the girls be able to tan?

Of course, we'll be buried under snow here at that of year so anything above freezing would be tanning weather, no?

I love Vegas even though I haven't been for years. Use to go every year for about 5 years.

The girls would love the night lights, 24 city, and hopefully Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon.

I just might treat my aged eyes on those young cowboys you speak of at the mentioned hotels!!!

Big cowboys LOL

. Are you looking for a BIG cowboy, my brother is 6'5" 240lbs, good looking, single, and scared to death of girls
biggrin.gif
sorry couldn't resist that one either.

Oh, if you are going in late December to early January you will miss the cowboys

.

I'm not sure it is tanning weather, but it should be about mid 60s. You should really have a good time. I'm going to be down there from the 3rd - ? . If you are going to be there that early let me know and maybe we can meet somewhere?

There is also Treasure Island and the Luxor. I really like the Excalibur and MGM though they are my favorites.

I ditto Circus Circus because they have a special arcade for young people.

However, no matter where you stay on the strip, there are tons of free shows and things to look at......and shuttles to take you to other casinos.

The Luxor is another good hotel to stay at and has a great pool, just in case it's warm enough to tan. It's newer than Circus Circus, and quite nice. We stayed at Circus Circus in Reno, and it was a bit run down - but maybe the Las Vegas Circus Circus is better? Anyway, Luxor is still on the strip--it's on the "nice" end of the strip though, but still not far to walk to the other end. It's also right across from the MGM Grand, which has some cool attractions like white tigers (you can walk through a glass tunnel in their cage--it's really cool. And free!!)

The Circus Circus is pretty run down, I've never been to Vegas, but my Grandparents go every year for the NFR (you know, those cowboys you spoke so disdainfully of!) and they've stayed at the Circus Circus for years. This year they decided to try somewhere they might have some more confidence in the elevators, and are staying at Sam's Place (I think, unless there isn't such a place, and then I heard wrong).

My brother went for the rodeo last year with some friends, and they did a lot more sightseeing than gambling, just going through the hotels on the strip and seeing shows and stuff.

Haven't been there since our son was born five years ago (sigh), but the place we always stayed was the Luxor. Loved the Egyptian theme! It is connected to Excalibur on one side and Mandilay Bay on the other, you don't even need to go outside.

One of our favorite things to do was to just visit the other casinos and see all the beautiful architecture. We also enjoyed the Secret Garden at the Mirage. Excalibur used to have a jousting show that was great family fun. They also had a theater downstairs that had motion rides. Oh, and you could also take them up to the top of the Stratosphere! (the big needle) There is a roller coaster up there and also one at New York New York (also close to the Luxor) that the girls may enjoy if they like that sort of thing. And lots and lots of shopping at Ceasar's Palace Forum Shops.....there is also a mall.

Color me green just thinking about it all,

Shelley

We have taken our kids there at Christmas and also at New Years. Our kids where 17 and 13 at the time. We have stayed at Exclibur which was fun, Cesar's Palace, MGM and Paris. The only thing is when you have kids with you, you aren't allowed to stand in the casinos to watch people play, you have to walk right on through and stay on the main walk ways.

Mandalyn Bay has a really nice shark/aquariam which is really nice for kids and they let you touch some of the see creatures that are there. Then there was a small zoo at the Mirage that was Siegfried and Roys, not sure its still there though now?
